In India, lots of teachers, particularly those in government schools, face problems accessing useful pedagogical research literature. Academic papers often use language that's too complicated for those who struggle with English. Plus, even if they could understand it, books and papers are often too expensive. On top of that, teaching and administrative tasks leave little time for reading and understanding such information, let alone using it in the classroom. Consequently, many teachers miss out on valuable research that could really help them. We at Things Education have started a playlist called 'TE Extra Classes' on our YouTube channel – and this playlist is made up of snippets from our online teacher professional development courses over the past 3.5 years. This is one of the many avenues through which we are trying to make education research accessible to and implementable by teachers in the classroom. This is the link to the playlist: https://lnkd.in/gcMM2pZj We hope you find these useful, and please do subscribe to the channel and click the bell icon so that you are notified each time we upload a new episode. #teachers #research #professionaldevelopment #YouTube #edtech #greatteaching

There is a ton of fantastic research literature available that tells us how the mind learns, what motivates students to learn, what different pedagogical approaches involve, and how to create and manage classroom cultures. However, most of this research literature is inaccessible to teachers in India. What do I mean by accessibility/inaccessibility in terms of research literature? - Language: Research literature is notorious for using complex academic language. Think of government school teachers in India who may struggle with reading in English. Such papers are inaccessible to them. - Cost: Research papers and books written on these topics are also extremely pricey, usually a minimum of Rs. 1500 for a book. Again, think of a government teacher in India. Such papers and books are inaccessible to them. - Time: Even with language abilities and the luxury of money to buy these, you still need ample time to read and digest the information, and then convert it into practices in the classroom. Teachers in India, overburdened with teaching and administrative tasks, do not have this time or mindspace. Such papers are inaccessible to them. Have you ever felt the frustration of wanting to use the latest research on teaching and learning (pedagogies), but found the academic resources overwhelming and inaccessible? You're not alone! (us bhai us😅) Traditional research papers can be dense and filled with technical jargon, making it difficult for busy educators to translate those findings into actionable strategies for their classrooms. Here at Things Education, we understand this challenge........ And to help our fellow educators, we have started a playlist called 'TE Extra Classes' on our YouTube channel – this playlist is made up of snippets from our online teacher professional development courses over the past 3.5 years. This is one of the many avenues through which we are trying to make education research accessible to and implementable by teachers in the classroom. A few days ago I had shared that Things Education had started a media channel. We have specifically started a series of short (<6 minutes) videos which are from our online teacher professional development courses over the past 3.5 years - TE Extra Classes. This is one of the many avenues through which we are trying to make education research accessible to and implementable by teachers in the classroom So why are we doing this? It is to make good practices become a part of Indian classrooms. Evidence-based practices are not easily accessible to teachers. These are behind expensive paywalls, or the language is dense or sometimes even the most motivated teachers just don’t have the time. Our Plan A, in keeping with the spirit of accessibility, is to keep the YouTube channel free. But we need your help and support for this. Subscribing to the channel helps. Engaging with the 20+ videos there helps even more. Like the videos! Comment your thoughts on them. And as an aside, I’m sure you’ll find the content pretty useful for you. If you find the videos “too basic” share it with someone who may need to watch the videos. Help us keep useful information free and accessible. The steps of designing a syllabus are crucial for teachers. Here are the steps: 1. Understand What's Needed: Figure out what students need to learn and any rules or standards to follow. 2. Set Goals: Decide what you want students to learn by the end of the course. 3. Choose What to Teach: Pick the right things to teach based on the goals and students' needs. 4. Organize Lessons: Put the things you're teaching in a logical order. 5. Pick Activities: Decide on activities that will help students learn. 6. Decide How to Test: Think about how to test if students have learned what you taught. 7. Make a Schedule: Plan out when you'll teach each thing and when you'll test students. 8. Get Materials Ready: Gather everything you need to teach the course. 9. Teach the Course: Teach the course following your plan, but be ready to change things if needed. 10. See How It Went: Ask students what they thought, look at test results, and think about how you can make the course better next time. #TESOL #EnglishTeaching #LanguageLearning #ESL #ELT #TEFLSpecific #TESOLTeachers #TeachingAbroad #LanguageClassroom #GrammarLessons #EnglishVocabularyEducational #EducatorLife #TeachingTips #ClassroomIdeas #LearningResourcesCareer #TESOLJobs #TeachingCareer #EducationJobs #TeachingOpportunitiesCommunity #TESOLCommunity #TeacherNetwork #EnglishLearners #GlobalEducation
