"MBA is not worth it!" This is what I thought when I left an MBA program at a prestigious B-school two years ago. After analyzing the NPV (yes, even marketing folks understand this!), I concluded it was a mere loss of money and decided to leave. But I was wrong. While accounting may overlook qualitative aspects, real life doesn’t. Harnessing the Power of Failure 🔥 Failure is often viewed as a setback, but in reality, it’s one of our greatest tools for growth and my journey through the Executive MBA at Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad has deeply ingrained this perspective in me. I believe the below five key ways to turn failure into an opportunity: 1. Whether good phase or bad phase, there is one thing common- It ends at some point. The two years of my MBA were definitely a good learning phase, which came to an end with the last exam getting over. After lots of assignments, discussions, exams, and projects, this MBA journey has finally come to a stop, but the lessons I learned here will continue to help me in the times to come. I help many aspirants online with respect to their preparation for CAT and other MBA entrances. Most of them used to ask this question- “Why did you join IIM Amritsar despite a score of 99+ in CAT?” Earlier, I used to answer that I wanted to study at an IIM, and I did not fill out the forms of many private colleges having higher average placement figures than IIM Amritsar. After two years of an MBA journey, I can say that it was a good journey overall. I want to thank some amazing 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 in the institute for the guidance and for the learning that I got. I also want to thank all my 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬, 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 and 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 for a great experience throughout my MBA journey. Though the journey was good, it had to stop someday because 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. As Term 1 at IIM Calcutta - MBAEx (One Year Full Time MBA Programme) wraps up with exams concluding today, it's a good time to reflect on the journey so far. 1. Commit to Coursework: The curriculum at IIM Calcutta is intense. With numerous assignments, projects, presentations, and regular classes, it's a challenge to stay on top of everything amidst various other activities. Staying sincere and dedicated to coursework can help manage the pressure towards the end of the term. 2. Engage in Sports and Co-curriculars: The campus boasts excellent sports facilities, from football grounds and basketball courts to lawn tennis courts, and TT and snooker tables. Make the most of these opportunities—be active, and perhaps pick up a new sport. 3. Connect with Batchmates: The first term is an ideal time to get to know your diverse batchmates. Listen to their stories and share yours. Attend social events and enjoy the unique IIM experience that happens once in a lifetime. Life at IIM Calcutta transforms your perspective on many aspects of life. Embrace this change early, even though it might be challenging and uncomfortable. Overall, it’s been a fantastic start at IIM Calcutta. Here’s to hoping the rest of the terms are just as exciting and rewarding.
