I went to another Boston Open Source meetup last night. I’m so happy to finally have found people that I can discuss interesting and innovative technologies with. Realizing that my inner musings about technology are sound is an incredibly edifying experience. I finally found my people. They make me feel like I may not, after all, be a dummy. Something that became clear to others just by listening to me talk: my knowledge of tech is as wide as an ocean but perhaps *as deep as a puddle* in places. And that is by design sometimes: I have a tendency to not fully commit to technologies until I have fully vetted them. This leaves me with a wide array of knowledge and only a few select areas of specialty. Right now, that area or speciality is #Purescript, #Nix, and #Haskell. I learn better when I can apply and fully commit to a tech stack…and I have certainly done that with Nix/Haskell/Purescript regardless of how industry feels about them. I love hearing other perspectives. It’s so incredibly rewarding to be able to talk to domain experts about things I only have a cursory, theoretical 100 foot view of. It helps me to escape the comfortable ivory tower of my idealism. It helps me drive home the point to myself that *I don’t even know what I don’t know*. Here’s to many more of those meetups. This community contains people that are the best of the best. #OpenSource #OpenSourceAllTaxpayerFundedSoftware
