SCB Group and buildOn are working in partnership to empower Nepali communities through education 🌍🏫 A team of 18 SCB volunteers is just back from a life-changing journey with nonprofit buildOn to Shivnagar, Nepal. They started construction on a new school block. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance educational opportunities in regions most in need. 📊 The Need is Great: In Nepal, over 11 million people are illiterate, and many communities lack proper educational facilities. This is especially true in Shivnagar, where locals face significant challenges due to poverty and limited access to quality education. 🤝 Community Engagement: Our volunteers worked closely with the local community, starting with a traditional Nepali Tika ceremony. This partnership not only involves building structures but also fostering strong community ties and cultural exchange. 🏗️ Building More Than Just Buildings: The project aims to provide not only classrooms but also essential facilities like latrines, which are crucial for hygiene and health. SCB and buildOn are dedicated to creating environments that support learning and growth. 🌱 Sustainability and Impact: In line with our commitment to sustainability, all travel and construction activities are carbon-neutral. We're funding climate projects to offset emissions, demonstrating our dedication to both global education and environmental stewardship. 🎉 Cultural Celebration: The journey also included memorable moments like participating in the Holi Festival, symbolizing our connection and joy in working together. This project is just one of many steps SCB is taking towards a brighter, more sustainable future. Scaling up with proper design parameters can solve some major issues like sustainability and climate change, I always believed that solution lies were you want to actually solve the problem from its root and not to contribute to create another problem, and solutions from rural sector is always worth scaling, because it's simple and sustainable.

Child labour is among the major issues of urbanization in Nepal. Among many sectors identified for child labour, the brick industry is one of many hazardous sectors of labour. With Building Resilience with Children in Kathmandu’s Brick Kilns (#BRiCKK) Project, #WVINepal has been working to build resilience in children and families who seasonally migrate to brick kilns in Kathmandu for livelihood since 2018. The project aimed to #eliminate child labour and focused on the neighborhood of brick industries and worked for the protection, education and livelihood enhancement of the community. The partnership with brick industry owners and local government has been a milestone resulting to the sustainability of the project. Continuing further, the project is looking ahead to collaborate with the government, stakeholders and private sector in innovating to reduce environmental footprint of brick industry. Today, marked very insightful interaction between stakeholders #FNBI Federation of Nepal Brick Industries, Department of Environment, Department of labour and employment of in adopting viable innovation and technologies for environment friendly brick production taking the learnings from past practices and experiences. Empowering Communities Through Insights and Solutions 🏡 We recently had the opportunity to visit a local slum area as part of our economic project under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). This visit was an eye-opening experience where we conducted surveys, engaged in meaningful conversations, and understood the challenges faced by the residents. Our primary objective was to assess their living conditions, identify key issues, and explore practical solutions to improve their housing and quality of life. It was inspiring to witness their resilience and determination despite the hardships they face. Through this interaction, we gained deeper insights into: The need for affordable and sustainable housing solutions. Awareness about government schemes and how they can benefit the community. Challenges related to basic amenities and infrastructure. We also took this opportunity to share information about the PMAY scheme and guide them on how to leverage its benefits. 💡 This experience reaffirmed our commitment to creating inclusive and impactful solutions for housing development. We believe that collaborative efforts and awareness can make a significant difference in bridging gaps and building a better future for everyone. Telangana has taken a major step forward in education with the launch of its first-ever container school, designed to tackle infrastructural challenges in remote forest regions. Built in the Bangarupalli hamlet of Mulugu district, this innovative school was constructed in just 10 days, and funded by the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT). The 25-metre-long, 25-metre-wide facility is fully equipped with desks, chairs, and basic amenities. This initiative ensures uninterrupted education for children in tribal hamlets like Bangarupalli, where restrictions on permanent constructions had delayed the establishment of traditional schools. Before this, students were forced to attend classes in a crumbling hut. Recently, I visited Chikondi Banda, one of the beneficiaries of our organization, Tingathe Malawi, in Kampini, Lilongwe district. Three years ago, with limited education and job prospects, Chikondi felt stuck in a cycle of poverty. This changed when he discovered Tingathe's vocational training program, which is offered to less privileged youth in Lilongwe. Chikondi chose horticulture, a field he was passionate about, and learned essential skills in plant care, composting, soil management, and more. After graduating, he established his farm in Kampini, which flourished under his care. Now, Chikondi has a stable income, provides employment, pays school fees for two students, and conducts free sustainable farming workshops. Vocational education is a game changer. It rescues young people from poverty and unemployment, though many overlook it as a viable career option due to negative perceptions. Some believe it is for students with poor grades, others think Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates are less preferred by employers compared to university graduates, and some consider TVET a dead end. This is far from the truth. Vocational education has long been a compass of change, lifting young people out of poverty and unemployment. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled a revolutionary scheme offering three marla-free plots to the deserving and needy. While paying a visit to Maskan-e-Ravi 'Zahra Homes' in Kala Shah Kaku, she formally inaugurated the project, issuing allotment letters and keys to 100 families. She said that she was highly satisfied with the quality and amenities of the scheme after getting a detailed briefing on the project. The Maskan Ravi Housing Scheme is a joint venture by RUDA and EPS Solutions Pakistan. The 400 square feet homes have been designed earthquake-resistant, and they are energy-efficiently designed, equipped with a 5 kW solar system to make them sustainable and cost-effective for utility purposes. In addition to the homes, the Maskan Ravi Housing Scheme includes essential community amenities. Among these, the residents will enjoy a school, mosque, playground, dispensary, and clean water from a reverse osmosis (RO) plant. These facilities aim to enhance the quality of life of beneficiaries. It goes a long way towards affordable housing with improved living standards of the underprivileged.
