Today, I had the privilege of being sworn into the New Hampshire Bar at its Supreme Court — the only one in the U.S. with a fireplace, adding a sense of warmth to a formal moment. 🔥 What truly made this day unforgettable was having my wife, Talia, and daughter, Zeeva, by my side, turning this professional milestone into a personal celebration of family and legacy.
Presiding over the ceremony, Justice Melissa B. Countway shared an insightful reflection: at the end of a legal career, people often don’t remember the specifics of what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel. This resonates deeply with me because, as lawyers, our work extends far beyond the arguments we craft or the cases we win. It’s about how we connect with others — clients, colleagues, and even (perhaps especially) adversaries. The true legacy we leave is in how we treat others. The impact we have on shaping a good system for all transcends our own legal victories.
In a profession often associated with conflict, it was refreshing to be reminded that we are all ultimately working toward the same values: equality, honesty, and service to the people of New Hampshire and the United States. We stand together on the side of justice, united by commitment to truth and universal human dignity. Law is not just a profession, but a vocation grounded in these principles.
I am grateful to be part of this legal community that values empathy, respect, and service. I intend to carry these principles into this next phase of my career as a tenured professor of law and lawyer in the Granite State.
