I finally found the time to sit down and execute my donation and subscriptions plan for 2024. I happily gave away this year’s bonus to a shortlist of, in my view, key environmental and social #nonprofitorganization and #ngos, as well as independent journalism organizations that provide fundamental services (alas badly paid) to society and which abide to a strict deontology and high ethical standards. These stay with and support the most vulnerable of our societies and/or make democracy work, or try to bring justice there where is most needed by keeping the ones in power accountable exposing fact-based truths. My 2024 list is the following: - Survival International (NGO defending rights of indigenous peoples worldwide) - Amnesty International - UNRWA - Legambiente - Kyclos and InnoAid (NGOs supporting street food vendors in India and refugee integration in Greece) - Spanish newspaper Contexto - Spanish newspaper El diario - British newspaper The Guardian - Basque newspaper Berria With the hope that this inspires someone else in my network (as Josephine Pratiwi inspired me ;) #bethechangeyouwanttoseeintheworld #wikileaks #positivechange #assange

A reminder that feminism discourse needs to be intersectional and should move away from the white women only gaze. While we have seen a number of well known western feminists speak up about alleged rapes by Hamas on Oct 7, we have not seen them speak up about the UN documented sexual violence by IDF towards Palestinian women and girls (let alone genocide and land grab!). If we are speaking up on violence against women, it has to be all women. As a Muslim who is partly Asian, I am really disappointed (though not surprised) at the overwhelming silence of my white sisters. This session tomorrow/today (Thursday, 29 Feb) is a discussion on confronting how gender-based violence (GBV) is weaponized by Israel to justify violence against Palestinians. They will also analyze the deeply entrenched issues within white "feminist" discourse and frameworks that perpetuate the problematic framing of GBV against Black, Brown, and Indigenous women/girls. The panelists will courageously expose the detrimental consequences of such narratives, igniting a call to action for justice and accountability.
Join Global Development for Palestine for an honest discussion about the western discourse that perpetuates the problematic framing of GBV against Pales.inian women, girls, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. This panel is 🔥🔥🔥 centering the voices of Pales.tinian and Arab women, exposing the detrimental consequences of such narratives, igniting a call to action for justice and accountability. Thursday February 29th, 4pm Palestine time. The event is free to attend, with an option to donate to causes chosen by the speakers. The BBC plans to release a documentary celebrating Band Aid, an initiative that—despite raising funds for famine relief—perpetuated harmful stereotypes about Africa. In the words of Fuse ODG: "African problems should be solved by Africans. We welcome genuine support, but it must be collaborative, not patronizing; grounded in solidarity, not charity." These outdated narratives cost Africa billions annually, stifling progress and damaging how the world perceives and interacts with the continent. Why this matters: Stereotypes diminish Africa’s agency and pride, misrepresenting a vibrant, innovative, and forward-moving continent. It’s time to take control of our stories and demand fair representation. Take Action: 1) Sign the petition to stop this documentary: https://lnkd.in/eE8v6mEK 2) Stream & share @FuseODG's “We Know It’s Christmas”—a celebration of Africa’s achievements. Proceeds go towards grassroots initiatives improving communities across the continent. 3) Amplify the message: Engage, comment, share, and use hashtag #StopBandAid

A staggering 57% of Tahirih clients experience abuse and exploitation AFTER coming to the U.S. It’s devastating that after making the brave and incredibly difficult decision to leave, migrants are at risk of experiencing unimaginable harm and violence in a country that should provide safety. My colleagues and I at the Tahirih Justice Center are dedicated to creating a world where everyone can live free from violence. But we can’t do this alone. That’s why I’m joining Tahirih Justice Center’s Light the Way Fund-a-Thon to raise critical funds to support women, girls, and all immigrant survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and other forms of gender-based violence. Join me to ensure that Tahirih has the resources to continue to fight for the safety and justice for survivors of gender-based violence. If you’re still unsure on how to speak up for Palestine on your LinkedIn, here are 5 tips I pulled from the “Social Media Guideline for Professionals Supporting Palestinian Human Rights” from We For P. *** After talking with various companies and professionals experiencing intimidation and retaliation, we've distilled guidance for more safely engaging in social media: ⚠️Understand Your Company’s Policy: Read and keep a copy of your company’s employee handbook and social media guidelines. 🌟 Stay Positive: Voice your support for Palestine and humanitarian efforts, and seek empathy from your audience. 📢 Action Calls: Encourage actions like supporting a ceasefire, donating for aid to Gaza, or contacting representatives to advocate for peace. 🔍 Verify Before Sharing: Only share headlines from trustworthy sources with clear, fact-checked information. 👀 Monitor and Report Fairly: Watch for equitable treatment in how all employees' posts are handled. If you spot unfairness or are targeted, reach out to us asap. Keep showing up. Keep talking about Palestine. ❤️ Thank you, #Belfast for continuing to show up. "Casa de la Justicia," meaning "House of Justice," is a project that empowers survivors of domestic violence in Bolivia by providing them with educational scholarships. These scholarship recipients, known as “Justicieras” (Advocates of Justice), are on a mission to bring justice and advocate for other victims of domestic violence. Many of these courageous women are pursuing careers in law, becoming lawyers, prosecutors, social workers, and more to fight for the rights of others and help eradicate the domestic violence epidemic that is so prevalent in Bolivia. Through this project, we are supporting them in gaining the skills and independence they need to make lasting change.
