Wyoming is taking a thoughtful approach to mental health in schools. Before making further investments, lawmakers are focusing on evaluating the success of pilot programs like Project AWARE and BARR. Rep. Lloyd Larsen emphasizes the importance of data-driven decisions while addressing concerns about the availability of mental health providers. In Sheridan County, local districts are proactively supporting students with programs like Sources of Strength and trauma-informed care. On the news this morning, discussions around preventative mental health measures in schools. Obviously my little ears pricked up! Labour plans to do this by ensuring there is a specialist support worker in every school. I'm interested in how this looks and works with current measures: for instance having an MHST embedded in their school. If a school has an MHST does that mean they won't get this provision? We have an excellent MHST but like all mental health services, they are over stretched, have waiting lists and are oversubscribed. Wondering if the DfE will further support and fund in-school specialists and empower schools to fund more specialist SEMH staff to offer immediate access to preventative support? Great it's being talked about, I wonder how in reality it'll be rolled out...... #mentalhealthinschools #mentalhealth #education

So important for neonatal staff to be aware of this resource. Neonatal parents may struggle with how they feel about their baby. These 3 important questions can make all the difference to open up a conversation and help support parent-infant relationships on the neonatal unit. What 3 words or phrases would you use to describe your relationship with your baby? What brings you the most joy in the relationship with your baby? What is your biggest fear about your relationship with your baby? Start the conversation. #parentinfantrelationships #neonatalpsychology #parenting #neonatal
We were delighted to be involved in helping to shape this vital new resource from Department of Health and Social Care https://lnkd.in/etwvdp_p The guidelines are designed to help practitioners to identify early difficulties in parent-infant relationships and to support them in referring families onto specialised parent-infant relationship teams and services where appropriate. As well asking caregivers their views, the new prompts also encourage practitioners to consider what babies are communicating through observation. The baby's voice is such a crucial part of understanding parent-infant relationships & more about the development of babies. This new set of guidelines, and especially the consideration of the baby's voice, resonates well with our recently announced theme for Infant Mental Health Awareness Week (10th - 16th June) where we're asking politicians to #Speakupforbabies Find out more about IMHAW here 👉 bit.ly/42nUI63 #IMHAW2024

With the General Election round the corner, let’s remember it's not just about policies; it's about prioritising what matters most to our young people: a seismic cultural shift in mental health care. So, what are young people fighting for: 1️⃣ A Comprehensive Mental Health Pathway: Young people are calling for a solid commitment to an investment that ensures a supportive, seamless mental health pathway for those aged 0-25. A pathway that acknowledges the unique challenges faced from childhood through young adulthood. 2️⃣ Whole Education Approaches: They demand that mental health awareness and support are embedded within the entire educational journey. It's a call to weave mental health into the curriculum, culture, and ethos of every educational setting, recognising the profound impact of education on mental well-being. 3️⃣ Early Support Hubs: The rollout of early support hubs is crucial. Young people are advocating for spaces where they can find early, accessible, and non-judgmental support, a proactive step towards preventing mental health issues from escalating. 4️⃣ Reform of the Mental Health Act: It's a call for a reform that mirrors the current needs and rights of young people. A reform that ensures every young person's interaction with the mental health system is handled with dignity, respect, and a genuine path to recovery. The General Election presents a key opportunity to align political agendas with what young people truly care about. This is a reminder that we should always be placing their voices at the center of any mental health reforms! #YouthVoices #MentalHealthMatters #GeneralElection #FutureFocused #YouthMentalHealthReform #UKGov #MentalHealth https://lnkd.in/eDCQcFdK.

70.2% of school-aged children have reported a deterioration in at least one health domain over the past five years. While 1 in 5 children may suffer from mental illness, it's important to remember that 5 in 5 children have mental health. Studies show that mindfulness and self-regulation are key to building resilience and protecting mental health over time. Nurse Practitioner Amra presents on the importance of managing mental health before reaching a crisis point and shares seven essential skills to build mental resilience in children and youth. Today is National Child Exploitation (CE) Awareness Day. In this regard, I had the opportunity to attend a training session on CE with key speakers from Catch 22/County Lines, NHS, Merseyside Police etc. Child exploitation has a massive impact on individuals mental health, education and attachment/relationships amongst others . It might also escalate existing mental health issues or ACEs which leads to unhealthy coping strategies. Hence, it is important to adopt a collaborative approach in working with children and young people in understanding signs of exploitation for early intervention. #childexploitation #childrensmentalhealth #childdevelopment #childhoodeducation
