At times when you apply your new found growth towards not only stability but passion for change, you will find that just because a pattern has been implemented to every sector of a aspirins Good Nature's Community that this pattern can not be seen to out grow its strong hold for breakable success. When I have new riggers operating around my hook, I always provide them with the opportunity to learn, emphasizing safety as the top priority. During more critical lifts, I ask them to stand aside, observe, and take notes until I am confident in their ability to be in the immediate area. Empower your team and invest time in training your riggers to collaborate effectively with you. Eisenhower Our typical vision of a "General & a President" is a person who simply says "do this now" with no discussion. Unfortunately, our vision of a General typically applies all the way down the administrative food chain to the first-tier level of "general," the field foreman. And that is how many if not most operate. Just think how much damage this "Eisenhower approach" will cause to production--and how many lives it would save. (Or will it enhance production and protect the lives of our people.)

Leadership! While in Boot Camp, I volunteered to be the watchbill coordinator for a team of 30 people (as an E1). This entailed having 2 watch positions manned 24/7 and having to understand each person's schedule to minimize giving them a "watch" at a time that it conflicted with their Division's schedule that was critical to their learning. On my first Ship, I took the mantle of leadership about a year after arriving by achieving qualification as a Sea and Anchor Line Captain and taking over at that position for one of the two most important lines for the Ship. About 6 months later I also took over the Line Captain for the Underway Replishment team. Each of these leadership jobs required getting a team (6 for Sea and Anchor and 20 for Underway Replenishment) of Sailors to work together in a coordinated and efficient way to combine their strength to meet goals (as an E4). I also took the mantle of leadership as a Workcenter Supervisor (also as an E4). I was so good at this job that I was assigned this role over two workcenters, one of which was not even my actual job at all. For this leadership role, I needed to understand the required regular preventative maintenance schedule for +$20M of radar, communications, and fire control systems. I had to ensure that all maintenance was completed on time, assigning 9 different Sailors to conduct different types of maintenance on the equipment. All of these leadership roles began within my first 2 years in the Navy. How early does your organization give leadership roles to new personnel? Are you trying to help people develop leadership skills early on, so that each person has an opportunity to prove their mettle as a leader?
