Interested in both archaeology and video games? Then these two volumes might be just a thing for you! 🎮 A defining fixture of our contemporary world, video games offer a rich spectrum of engagements with the past. Beyond a source of entertainment, video games are cultural expressions that support and influence social interactions. Games educate, bring enjoyment, and encourage reflection! They are intricate achievements of coding and creative works of art. Histories, ranging from the personal to the global, are reinterpreted and retold for broad audiences in playful, digital experiences. The medium also magnifies our already complicated and confrontational relation with the past, for instance through its overreliance on violent and discriminatory game mechanics. This series continues an interdisciplinary conversation on game development and play, working towards a better understanding of how we represent and experience the past in the present. 📚 Both volumes can be accessed for free or purchased on our website! https://lnkd.in/exnGmRwx https://lnkd.in/eErzn_AU #videogames #history #heritage #archaeology #gamedevelopment

New Post: Henry Cavill praises new ‘Warhammer’ game ‘Space Marine 2’ - https://lnkd.in/gMkZ8Btj - The Witcher himself, Henry Cavil, has given high praise to the new Warhammer game, Space Marine 2. READ MORE: Has gaming outpriced the average player? Henry Cavil is a big Warhammer fan. In 2022, he surprised customers during a visit to a Nottingham Warhammer shop and later that year it was announced he was set to star in and produce a new Warhammer series for Amazon. As reported by PCGamer, Cavil posted about Space Marine 2 on his Instagram account, writing: “This game is the mutt’s….. Seriously, though, they’ve done pretty well eh? I couldn’t complete the campaign on Angel of Death by myself (or at least didn’t have patience to complete by myself!) which I love!” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Henry Cavill (@henrycavill) Space Marine 2‘s campaign can be completed co-op, which seems to be the intended way to play on the game’s higher difficulties. Even for fans like Cavil, it’s too much to go it alone. He added: “Loving the PvP and am really looking forward to it growing and expanding – It has real potential to be absolutely awesome! Disclaimer: I know nothing about game development so the kind of dreams I have may be rather difficult to implement!” Cavil is such a Warhammer fan that he said he’ll be teaching his child to build and paint Warhammer miniatures as soon as the baby arrives. He announced that he and Natalie Viscuso were expecting a child together soon. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been doing well with both players and critics since its launch September 9. Reviewers called it a “pure, unfiltered video game,” and said “It’s a gloriously extravagant depiction of the 40k universe, and also a game that feels genuinely next-generational in its presentation.” In other news, a new Batman game is reportedly in the pipeline from Arkham developers Rocksteady.
