Thrilled to share our accepted paper at NeuroImage! If offers a new paradigm for individually tailored anesthetic regimens with halogenated gas. https://lnkd.in/eJ2fdTVc Thank you to Yuliya Voskobiynyk, Britta Lindquist, Deanna Necula, Dan Longrois, and Jeanne Paz! We tackled the challenge of monitoring hypnosis during isoflurane-induced general anesthesia in mice, using cortical EEG. Most current approaches segment EEG as one of underdosed / adequate dosing / overdosed states, with little insight into transitions between these states. We discovered an EEG state chart going from anesthesia induction to burst suppression and quantified transitions between these states. Notably, the delta rhythm dampened several minutes before burst suppression occurrence, suggesting delta dampening as a predictive marker of BS. Interestingly, we identified an EEG signature in the gamma frequency domain during recovery from burst suppression, suggesting an a posteriori marker of long hyperpolarization. Along the way, we developed and adapted fully-automated tools for EEG monitoring: a personalized threshold for detecting iso-electric suppression episodes, and a continuous tracking of EEG rhythms.
