Very interesting to see Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)'s Recent Release on #GenAI in Financial Services – A Must-Read. The key points covered are centred around: 1. AI Innovation and Risk Management – the importance of fostering innovation within a well-structured risk management framework, ensuring that adoption is both innovative and responsible. 2. Practical Use Cases – It dives into how financial institutions are leveraging GenAI for internal efficiencies (like automating low-value tasks) and customer-facing solutions, all while addressing challenges like information overload and human error. 3. The GenAI Sandbox – An exciting initiative by HKMA, this Sandbox offers a risk-controlled environment for banks to experiment with and pilot GenAI use cases, while receiving supervisory feedback. Had an incredible time at The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (The CISI) #YPN event. We delved into the sizeable challenges and questions that regulators and firms are grappling with from the use of AI in the insurance industry. All while having a delightful wine tasting experience. 🍷 Jeff Heasman was absolutely brilliant in drawing fascinating analogies between AI and the wine industry. I loved all the little nuggets of knowledge from the session - a memorable anecdote was a Fintech from back home in Singapore whose machine learning model factored in an applicants phone battery level when assessing one's credit worthiness! (Mine would have taken a hit as it was 20% at that point in the evening) Reflecting on how slow technological change was in the past, it's amazing - and a bit terrifying - to think about how AI will transform industries in the next decade. We are delighted to announce the release of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)’s latest research report, “Generative Artificial Intelligence in the Financial Services Space,” supported by Quinlan & Associates and KPMG China. Generative Artificial Intelligence (“GenA.I.”), driven by large language models (“LLMs”) and enriched by diffusion models, represents a major breakthrough in artificial intelligence (“A.I.”) technology, reshaping the financial services sector across service fulfilment and operations / risk management. On behalf of the HKMA, Quinlan & Associates conducted in-depth research on the GenA.I. landscape to demystify and present key concepts in a digestible manner. As part of this study, we surveyed 137 industry practitioners and interviewed 16 leading institutions across the banking, securities, insurance, and technology sectors to examine adoption trends and challenges in the financial services industry. Drawing on our findings, we also outlined key recommendations to help financial institutions effectively navigate the opportunities presented by GenA.I. in the years ahead.
