Pictured below: Ecologists from the TAFE SA Aboriginal Access Centre conducting pit trap surveys to identify the scaly creatures of the Coorong - one of the projects conserved through sales of the Wilderlands Biological Diversity Units. Wilderlands, one of our first cohort of the Biodiversity Accelerator+ companies, has protected 151,373 square metres of vulnerable Australian habitat, forever!( Read: https://lnkd.in/gn9TZi4e) We are proud to have contributed to the protection of these natural ecosystems, as well as supported the growth of the Wilderlands team work. Very important issue. The #design of #private_gardens is usually depends on the client's wishes and we can not argue about it.. But we must explain and educate the client why we should think in the direction of more and more natural design. I personally stopped working with private gardens over 5 years ago for the same reason. I worked in the professional landscape company, I liked that team, but unfortunately, the design we were "pushed" to provide at that time, often, was not making any difference, and argumentation оf our landscape team haven't had an influence ...The market worked like this. Unfortunately. Right now, sometimes, I have requests for private garden design and I'm starting the relationships with client from a mini-lecture regarding natural design and natural approaches🤭. Just to see іf we can be on the same wave. More and more people agree with it. But the majority don't. In my opinion, we should have more regulations regarding #NBS, even in private gardening area, because it is not a philosophy, or fancy approach no longer, it is a need. We operate in the nature, with natural resources and we need to take responsibility for it. #garden_design #landscape_architecture #nbs #natural_approaches
Despite our best efforts, our backyards are often death traps for insects. Human activities have brought about the sixth mass extinction event and conservation alone will not save species from decline; habitat must be stitched into our cities. LAF Fellow Betsy Peterson's Biodiversity Victory Garden movement offers simple actions to activate home gardens and interstitial, urban spaces into a rich network for biodiversity. GreenZone has teamed up with Ecologi to restore 55m2 of habitat in the UK 🌿 Our partnership focuses on reviving wildflower meadows, wetlands, heathland, and woodland to support a variety of species. With habitats disappearing, biodiversity is at risk, leading to declines in pollinating insects and iconic animals like red squirrels and hedgehogs. The WWF reports a 56% decline in UK species from 1970 to 2013. By creating and restoring habitats, we not only boost biodiversity but also improve carbon storage in our soils for the future. Every small action counts, and we're committed to making a difference one seed at a time. From small seeds you get big trees, and from small steps, you can make a big impact. We don't know WHAT you've heard about Sloths, But we want to let you in on a fact: contrary to popular belief, sloths are not lazy!! They are energy-efficient creatures with a unique survival strategy. Often misunderstood and unfairly linked to laziness, these amazing animals play a crucial role in their ecosystems by spreading seeds and enhancing biodiversity. If you are interested in learning more about these magnificent creatures, we invite you to check out our blog, look for the article of July 15th ;-) https://lnkd.in/eEq6X_xT

In collaboration with Ecologi, GreenZone are proud to have restored 55m2 of habitat in the UK! 🌿 The initiative we support focuses on restoring and conserving four types of habitats: wildflower meadows, wetlands, heathland, and woodland. As habitats deteriorate, their capacity to sustain species diminishes, reducing the biodiversity, and losing pollinating insects as well as beloved animals such as red squirrels and hedgehogs. According to the WWF, between 1970 and 2013, 56% of species in the UK declined. This project, close to home, will not only enhance biodiversity by creating and restoring habitats, but in keeping our soils healthy, we are able to create more carbon storage for years to come. Even if it's just one seed at a time, we believe that small steps can make a big impact. Read more about our work with Ecologi on our blog: https://lnkd.in/d6qZUVkc #Ecologi #EndangeredWildlife

Today, we celebrate International Day for Biodiversity 2024, which aims to increase understanding and awareness globally. Across the three Polyflor sites, 29% of its 47 hectares are vital green space, but we are determined to do more to support our natural surroundings and wildlife. To further this investment in the planet, our new Biodiversity Policy highlights plans for the years ahead and can be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/eNaQi_uz #polyflor #biodiversityday #partoftheplan #fornature

In this paper, Linser Stefanie, advocates for #revising and #amending FOREST EUROPE indicators: “By amending and evolving the indicators, we can enhance our understanding of forest biodiversity, inform evidence-based decision-making, and catalyse effective conservation and sustainable management efforts for the benefit of present and future generations,” writes the author. 🔍 Such revisions concern the following #biodiversity indicators: 4.1 Diversity of tree species 4.2 Regeneration 4.3 Naturalness 4.4 Introduced tree species 4.5 Deadwood 4.6 Genetic Resources 4.7 Fragmentation 4.8 Threatened forest species 4.9 Protected forests 4.10 Forest birds Access the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/e93ifjiu Bernhard Wolfslehner European Forest Institute Alex Giurca Gert-Jan Nabuurs Agata A. Did you know that butterflies are a good indicator of biodiversity? When the butterflies 🦋 are doing well, nature is doing well. Therefore, we document the number and types of butterflies in Gjellerup Enge, which is a nature restoration project surrounding our headquarter in Herning, Denmark. Meet nature consultants Anne Eskildsen and Heidi Buur Holbeck to learn more about the methods we use to monitor biodiversity. #egecarpets #biodervisity #nature

🎤 🌳 SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT - CHRIS DANIELS In his keynote presentation, Professor Chris Daniels will discuss the challenge of evaluating tree canopy, using Green Adelaide’s recent project assessing Adelaide’s urban forest as an example. An arbitrary benchmark that’s often aspired to is 30% cover but how, when and where do you measure canopy? Different methods provide different answers. Are tree height and the quantity planted as important as canopy cover? Do all trees have equal value? Different species have different cultural and biodiversity roles so how do we account for these other criteria? Trees also grow, spread, are pruned, and die; hence it is vital to understand and account for the dynamic nature of the canopy. Join us to hear more at #Treenet2024 the 25th National Street Tree Symposium in Adelaide on 12 & 13 September.
