Satellite imagery is an important aspect of spatial decision-making. It allows decision-makers to understand the problems without the need to be there physically. That is remote sensing. In this video, you will learn how to download Landsat 8 imagery from USGS in just a few minutes. #gis #remotesensing #mapping #landsat #satelliteimagery #arcgis https://lnkd.in/dpMrYq-R

"A global distributed altitude (terrain height) data from Nevada Geodetic Laboratory 🏡 " I discovered a dataset that records 22000+ points of altitude around the world that can be potentially useful for validating Global Digital Elevation Map (GDEM) from this hashtag #ScientificData Paper (https://lnkd.in/eXewQZTQ). A big effort has been made to access the website (https://lnkd.in/eJK4RyRU) and collect all the GPS stations' height. Therefore, to avoid repetitive effort, I made a single geopackage file that contains all the records, document the process and publish it as an open data in hashtag #Zenodo (https://lnkd.in/eUQQS_7B).

When working on geospatial projects, choosing the right satellite imagery can make all the difference. Landsat, Sentinel, and MODIS are three of the most widely used Earth observation programs, each offering unique strengths for applications like agriculture, climate monitoring, and land use mapping. This infographic highlights their differences in spatial resolution, temporal resolution, spectral capabilities, and more to help you select the best tool for your needs. Please Note: The images are for aesthetics & illustrative purposes only — they are not the exact images for Landsat, Sentinel & MODIS. Day 9: GIS Mapping – Cyclone Freddy Post-Flood Scouring Assessment. Using Sentinel-1 SAR data, I mapped post-flood scouring from Cyclone Freddy by analyzing backscatter differences. I filtered for Interferometric Wide (IW) mode with descending orbit data to enhance flood-impacted areas, focusing on the VV polarization band. By calculating the average backscatter for pre- and post-flood periods, I identified areas with significant changes, revealing high and low scouring zones. //Limitations: spatial resolution. #GIS #RemoteSensing #CycloneFreddy #FloodMapping #SentinelSAR

Recap: Sonar Marine Day - Introducing Integrated Multibeam for Marine Exploration Glad to share the video highlights from our successful Sonar Marine Day event on 6 June 2024 in collaboration with CHCNAV! We had a fantastic turnout with over 60 participants joining us for a deep dive into the latest advancements in bathymetry, marine, and hydrographic surveying technologies. One of the key highlights was exploring the capabilities of the Multibeam Echosounder, This powerful tool can revolutionize data acquisition and streamline workflows for geospatial professionals. This event was a resounding success, and we're excited to make Sonar Marine Day an annual tradition! Our goal is to keep Sonar Squad updated on the latest innovations and empower you to work more efficiently in the geospatial field especially hydrographic and bathimetry Watch the full video recap and let us know in the comments below what geospatial technology updates you'd like to see at future events! ⬇️ #SonarMarineDay #PTSNU #SonarNusantaraUtama #MultibeamEchosounder #Bathymetry #MarineSurveying #Hydrography #Geospatial #Technology

Thanks to #CopernicusProgram from #ESA, #MarineTrafic from #Kpler GEOINT analysts can combine spatial data with satellite imagery and obtain insightful reports for decision makers. This first impression report (FIR) provides such information. However, the analysis of the first symptoms of the new construction has been observed in 2021. Do you want to know more? 🗺️ A bit behind on #30DayMapChallenge, but still going strong! For Day 26, I'm showing how map projections can alter and distort how spatial data is interpreted. Map projections try to portray the surface of the earth or a portion of the earth on a flat piece of paper or computer screen. In a lay man’s term, map projections tries to transform the earth from its spherical shape (3D) to a planar shape (2D) so that maps can be made on flat layers (e.g. maps). The data shown here is the WWF Marine Ecoregions of the World dataset - https://lnkd.in/dThmSHxd Originally projected with the World Geodetic System 1984, you can see how the data can be warped and distorted when projected onto other coordinate reference systems. #gis #mapping

New #TrilaWatt Newsletter 👏 👏 👏 The mFund #TrilaWatt project is ending soon and we look forward to presenting the result of three years of work. Recently, all topography data were uploaded to our data platform and are now available for you. Sediment and hydrographic data will follow until the end of this year or in early 2025. We would be enthusiastic about receiving your feedback about our most recent uploads. 🌊 Result presentation We invite you to participate in our result presentation on 06th February 2024 from 10 – 12 CET. Three years of intense research and data gathering passed - now we want to take you on a journey from where we started in TrilaWatt to today’s results. Talks will include the topics: Geomorphology, surface sediments, hydrodynamics and sediment transport, web functionality, and discussions. Registration opens soon! 🌊 New web viewer We have unified our web viewer with previously existing infrastructure and coastal data in the new BAW coastal information system (https://lnkd.in/eWEcnTtV, see example below). Coastal data for the Wadden Sea are now gathered in one place and you can profit from a coherent data starting in the year 1996. We have also reorganized the structure and added sublayers for easier navigation. Web feature services for our topographies are now active; hence you can now hit the download button and apply these data in your applications. A citable data DOI is in the making and will be ready soon – a first glance is available our the preliminary meta data (https://lnkd.in/ezUkfHz9). 🌊 Use-Cases: We are grateful for every stakeholder that invested time and purpose to aid our TrilaWatt research initiative. Thank you. The stakeholder participation process was now published as technical reports with DOI and can be accessed online. Use cases range from tidal energy to intertidal zone classification, or tidal propagation for LiDAR campaigns – make sure to check if this is of interest to your work and get in touch with us. More applications are underway (https://lnkd.in/e9ggNY58).

GPS time is an essential component of the Global Positioning System. It is used in various applications, including land surveying, where it provides the accuracy needed for precise measurements. Calculating GPS time from UTC involves knowing the current number of leap seconds and adding this to the current UTC time. https://lnkd.in/eWjVgGPK
