Read (and Understand) Your Contracts, Please! One very important lesson I’ve learned throughout my career is the importance of thoroughly reading contracts before signing on the dotted line. This advice isn’t limited to employment contracts but extends to business contracts as well. Though Section 7 of the Employment Act states that any term or condition of an agreement is less favourable to an employee than a term prescribed by the Act is overridden by the Act, it’s concerning when a company doesn’t provide the bare minimum required by law. However, I wouldn’t immediately see this as a red flag until I give them a chance to explain. If they say something like, “Oh, this is our company policy.
