Another interesting webinar hosted by the Ecosystems Knowledge Network (https://lnkd.in/e6DKf5Am) coming up: "Most of the landscapes and seascapes of the UK gain their value and identity because of the way they have been shaped by both people and nature. New efforts to achieve nature recovery don’t always give due recognition to the culture and heritage that is so important in making places where people want to be. Likewise, efforts to enable places to thrive culturally don’t always harness the value of nature." https://lnkd.in/eh9nCTWE

The first in a series of talks about intangible cultural heritage, thanks to Australia ICOMOS - AICOMOS Traditional trade skills are an essential form of built heritage. How can we preserve knowledge and value skills within current construction processes? Looking forward to continuing the conversation about intangible cultural heritage.
Join the Australia ICOMOS National Scientific Committee Intangible Cultural Heritage and our panel of experts to discuss how Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) can inform high quality conservation outcomes. The first in a series of conversations with Traditional Tradespeople, we will be joined by conservation stonemason James Charlwood and heritage roof plumber Rob Jones to hear about the ways ICH informs their daily practice in the historic built environment. Renewable energy is the future
Seychelles is a relatively tiny country, and it has the world's smallest capital, Victoria. But it also is home to some enormous living things: Esmerelda is the planet's heaviest land tortoise living in the wild — she weighs 670 pounds — and a nut called the coco de mer, found here, produces the largest seed in the world, which can weigh up to 33 pounds. Seychelles was one of 10 island countries or territories to attend the second cohort of the Blue Planet Alliance Fellowship Program in Hawaii in May, which convened island leaders to help share information that could put them on the path to a 100% renewable-energy future. Did you know that Queensland has five World Heritage areas — more than any other state or territory in Australia! ✨ World Heritage areas are places that are important to all the peoples of the world, regardless of where they are located 📍 They include the most beautiful and culturally significant places on our planet 🌎 The Queensland Government provides statewide coordination of World Heritage management arrangements including policy and strategic planning and consistent inter-governmental and cross-jurisdictional advice on World Heritage matters in accordance with the Australian World Heritage Intergovernmental Agreement. We also coordinate advisory committees with First Nations, community and scientific experts to provide advice on the management of the World Heritage areas. #QueenslandEnvironment

I think this research is really important. Many people see heritage as a blocker, preventing change and being a waste. More and more research is showing how people value heritage and the positive impacts it has on health and well being. We live in a society that looks at costs, and this research shows the positive value of heritage in monetary terms. Can we please stop thinking as an late added extra and include it as a main player? https://lnkd.in/eHKH3g42
