The #Hydra #Bike is a design study on the hydrogen powertrain of the future. What would a modern-day #motorcycle look like if we invested in #Hydrogen #Powertrains rather than #Electric? How would this #powertrain look and affect the visual appearance of the #Motorcycle? The Hydra bike is designed from the inside out. We began by imagining the internal components of a hydrogen powertrain then we let these components help dictate the design of the bike. It was critical for us to have the package be versatile. This might be most efficient truck in the world While the shift to electric or hydrogen for trucks is undeniable, diesel trucks aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. We might see them being sold well into the later half of this century. Here's the US Department of Energy’s joint research project with long haul truck manufacturer Kenworth. This is a great study to show that the humble diesel truck has a long way to go. And as other greener technologies need their time to mature we still need to make a difference now. https://lnkd.in/dPw9wUkf This truck has some real innovation with a hybrid system that achieves 55.7% engine efficiency (modern cars are at about 35-40%), and an extreme focus on reducing aerodynamic drag. (Force that air exerts on the truck when it moves forward). They were able to reduce a whopping 48% drag from their baseline which was already more efficient than trucks in India. While this is still a concept it provides an important goal post on how much more efficient trucks can be made and regardless what fuel strategy we are going to need more efficient design and  this concept opens up a few very interesting directions While it might not be possible to create this type of vehicle in India right now, Making minor changes and additions to current vehicles are a great start. While it is always a challenge to make these sort of vehicles at low volumes. Here low capex processes like thermoforming make it possible on a business level. Let's talk about some great news in automotive. There has been so much negativity, let's look at some fantastic British capabilities. Clockwise from top right: 1. Jaguar Type 00. It certainly created a lot of noise when the brand was first revealed a few weeks ago, and again when the concept car was launched last night. Jaguar is back, and similar to the launch of the E-Type, it is a unique car. 2. Riversimple Rasa. Hydrogen fueled, with a unique circular and sustainable business model, Riversimple has not gone the easy route, but the concept, and the engineering, is fantastic. 3. Wells Vertige. A small series, with great engineering and the ability to run on Sustainable fuel. 4. Caterham Project V. An electric Caterham concept, being developed into a road car. It looks fantastic, and stays true to the Caterham concept. Just a few examples of British engineering and style, across EV, Hydrogen and ICE with sustainable fuel. Ariel Unveils The All-Electric E-Nomad Sports Car The cars from Ariel are more whimsical than practical. And yet, whimsy can often be the precursor to innovation. For instance, developing a process for making carbon fiber body parts that are recyclable and significantly reduce carbon emissions from the manufacturing process is an idea that could easily find its way into mass market cars and help reduce auto industry emissions. There are lots of other products that could use low carbon composites as well. No matter how you slice it, the cars from Ariel keep the original spirit of the sports car — minimum weight, adequate power, extraordinary handling, no frills — alive and well in a world where gigantamobiles proliferate by the hour. Ariel is keeping the ethos of Colin Chapman — the master of simple machines that were wicked fast — alive. “Horsepower can make you faster on the straights,” he said. “Lightness will make you faster everywhere.” You many never see a car from Ariel. It is a very small, specialized automaker, but its innovative engineering could well find its way into a car you drive in the near future.
