🎉 🔥 **Junior scientist position (3yr) on global extreme FIRE CARBON CYCLE impacts **🔥 🎉 https://bit.ly/4eE8KGm Yes, fires are both fundamental and damaging earth system phenomena, but have you wondered what their impacts are net of plant combustion, regrowth, mortality, and soil burning (did you know that in some regions soil emissions are 90% of the total)? Are you interested in quantifying these globally and predicting/backcasting how their future and past impacts on the terrestrial carbon budget? Am hiring for a 3 year junior-scientist / postdoc role in the LSCE's terrestrial biogeochemical modelling group to study exactly this under recently-funded European Space Agency project X-FIRES (overseen by me, Yidi Xu, Philippe Ciais). If you have a background rooted in and motivated by earth sciences, physics, biology, fire science, ecology, data science or biogeochemistry, hold a PhD and would like to contribute to fundamental biospheric theory with large-scale data and modelling, check out the full announcement here: https://bit.ly/4eE8KGm

One method we use for resolving space-time, biological and disturbance -specific biomass responses to fire will be the application of deep learning to high resolution airborne LiDAR.
