It is a ‘strategic’ area for those who believe and glimpse the industrial development in Trieste of the advantages of the status of Porto Franco Internazionale. The status of free port has been in force and used since 1947 and has allowed for decades a substantial traffic of semi-trailers between Turkey and Northern Europe (read Germany) subtracted from the quota regime. The industrial advantages, both in logistics and in the manufacture added in kuogo of non-EU materials and goods, are all to be consolidated (especially after the failure of Italian state notification to the EU Commission of the Porto Franco Trieste) and competition between the poor for the extension of the Zes indiscriminate. The current Trieste regime is, however, extendible to the entire backport area, in the Province of Trieste. A U-sham basin like the Industrial Canal is in this context a point of heavy gravity in the heart of the Port. We will see how the protagonists, logisticied industrial, traditional or external, will react. If not now, when?
