This Thanksgiving, let’s think beyond turkey and traditions. In the workplace: What are we giving? Hours, effort, innovation, and sometimes even personal sacrifices. What are we getting in return? Growth opportunities, appreciation, or merely deliverables and deadlines? Gratitude and reciprocity should flow both ways. If we foster a culture of mutual respect and recognition, we build workplaces worth being thankful for. Disclaimer: This post isn’t to undermine workplaces but to encourage a reflective culture where both employees and organizations grow together. Why Thanksgiving is Celebrated Thanksgiving is a U.S. holiday to express gratitude, originally tied to harvest festivals and the Pilgrims’ 1621 feast with the Wampanoag Native Americans. It’s about giving thanks and fostering community. #thanksgivingweek ##Thanksgiving2024 #WorkplaceGratitude #OfficeCulture #EmployeeAppreciation #MutualGrowth

The holidays can be some of the best times in the workplace. It is a time of warmth, celebrations, gift giving and receiving. It is a time of year that can bring teams closer together as they share in festivities and service to the community. As leaders, we need to remember to be attuned to the diverse emotional landscape within our staff. While some may be filled with festive cheer, others might be experiencing hardship or loss, making celebrations difficult. We can acknowledge this spectrum of emotions by creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels seen and respected. Consider offering flexibility for those who need it, and encourage open communication without pressuring anyone to participate in festivities. Small gestures of kindness and understanding, like a thoughtful card or a listening ear, can go a long way in showing your support and fostering a sense of belonging during this sensitive time. Wishing everyone, no matter what you celebrate, a warm and wonderful holiday season. #leadwithlove

This holiday season, who could you invite to your table? 🎄 The Table isn’t just a place for food—it’s a place for connection, belonging, and conversation. But not everyone has a table to gather around this year. What if this season, your table became a space for others to experience the warmth of hospitality? ✨ Who could you invite? • A neighbor who might be spending the holidays alone. • A coworker or acquaintance who’s far from home. • Someone in your life who feels overlooked or disconnected. ✨ How could you go beyond food? • Engage in meaningful conversation. Ask about their story, their dreams, or their favorite traditions. • Create an environment of listening, laughter, and genuine connection. • Share more than a meal—share your time, attention, and care. And if inviting someone to your table isn’t possible, consider taking your table to them: • Volunteer at a shelter or community center, not just to serve food but to share kindness and conversation. • Spend time in spaces where connection is just as needed as nourishment. The holidays are a time to reflect on what we have and how we can give it away—our resources, yes, but also our presence and humanity. Who could you make room for at your table this year? How can you practice the Table—the art of the Kind—for others? #Arable #Community #Connection #Table #Holidays #Kindness #Leadership

Celebrating Our Unique Journeys This Holiday Season As we gather to celebrate the holiday season, it’s a beautiful reminder of how diverse our beliefs, traditions, and journeys truly are. Whether you’re lighting a menorah, celebrating Christmas, observing Kwanzaa, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, these moments reflect the richness of our differences. Yet, this season also brings an opportunity for something we all share: the spirit of kindness, respect, and understanding. In a world that can often feel divided, it’s important to embrace each other’s uniqueness—not just during the holidays but throughout the year. No one should ever feel judged, excluded, or diminished because of their beliefs or the paths they walk. As someone who has experienced firsthand the challenges of being different, I know how transformative it is when we choose acceptance over judgment. Let this season remind us to celebrate humanity in all its forms. Wishing you peace, joy, and connection this holiday season, no matter what or how you celebrate. Together, we can build a world that lifts everyone up. #HappyHolidays #MerryChristmas #HappyHanukkah #CelebrateDiversity #InclusionMatters #diversity #inclusion #beyou

🎡Visitors in their 1000s flock to Winter Wonderland for a taste of winter magic. However, for many neurodivergent individuals, the festive lights, the crowds and volume of Christmas festivities filling the air can quickly transform into an overwhelming experience. Here’s why: 💡 Sensory Overload - The bright lights, loud music, and bustling crowds create a sensory environment that can be incredibly overwhelming. It’s hard to enjoy the festivities when every sound and flicker feels intensified. 👥 Social Expectations - Winter Wonderland is a social event, but for those who thrive in quieter, more controlled settings, the pressure to socialise can induce anxiety and discomfort. 🌀 Change and Unpredictability - The spontaneous nature of amusement parks means that plans can shift rapidly, leading to stress for those who prefer routines and predictability. 🤔 Crowds and Space - Navigating through large groups can be daunting, making it hard to enjoy the attractions. 💀 While Winter Wonderland is a magical experience for many, personally I’d only go there to die! I’m by now means a party pooper, I absolutely love being social and having fun - just in the right environment. 🎄 That why inclusion matters, with an estimated 1 in 7 neurodivergents it’s important to recognise that it can also present significant challenges for neurodivergent individuals. Awareness and understanding go a long way in creating more inclusive spaces where everyone can enjoy the festive spirit! ❤️ #Neurodiversity #WinterWonderland #Awareness #Inclusion #MentalHealthMatters

Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday. The food, no pressure for gifts, the family, the friends—or in my case, our chosen family, given how far I live away from my extended family in Canada. Anyone who knows me, knows I am constantly harping on about #community. When I first moved to Geneva years ago, my biggest fear about leaving the #humanitarian sector wasn’t the career pivot or yet another international move—it was the community. As a humanitarian abroad, you always had a community. You were far from family, so you made your own—friends who became family, strangers who became neighbours, and colleagues who became roommates (read: shared guesthouses and in camps communal shipping containers turned into bunks). Fast forward to Geneva, where it took me years to feel like I had finally built that kind of community. It’s not easy to find people who you can call on for anything. This year, I feel like I’ve finally gotten there. We hosted a Canadian Thanksgiving at our place for the 5th year in a row with the same families who have become our chosen community, and we are attending two American Thanksgiving celebrations. And here’s the link to #socialimpact: the power of community isn’t just about us personally—it’s about what we do with it. Whether in the workplace, within social movements, or in our local neighbourhoods, building and nurturing community is where real #impact starts. It’s where we find our power to drive change, to uplift others, and to transform those little moments into meaningful progress So this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for the community I’ve found, for the people who’ve supported me, and for those who remind me why we do this work in the first place. P.S. Here’s a photo of our Thanksgiving table this year—because one of my favourite things about Thanksgiving is the table decor. Not quite at Martha Stewart's level, but it’s an annual ritual that I truly love. #Community #SocialImpact #Thanksgiving #Connection

Did you know... Memorial Day Allows Time for Relaxation, Family. Relatively few attend formal celebrations of the holiday. A 2006 Gallup Panel poll found Americans largely celebrate Memorial Day weekend and the holiday in informal ways, by relaxing or spending time with family and friends. A fairly small number travel or go out of town. Roughly half of Americans have specific plans to spend the holiday outdoors in some fashion. Older Americans are more inclined to stay home and relax, while younger Americans are more likely to attend a cookout or to travel. The poll was conducted May 22-24 and surveyed a nationally representative sample of 1,003 members of Gallup's household panel. So what are you doing to relax this Memorial Weekend? Are you getting out in nature? Are you staying home and relaxing? Do you like to go to the movies? Share in the comments below #memorialday #relaxation #holidaytime #stressbuster

Celebrating Diversity and Individuality This Holiday Season. 🌟 As we approach the joyous Christmas season, filled with festive markets, beautiful decorations, and cherished traditions, I find myself reflecting on a significant aspect of our lives that deserves attention: the importance of respecting diversity and individuality. Growing up, I was surrounded by family and friends for whom faith played a vital role. However, I also witnessed the divisions that can arise among believers, often fueled by a desire to prove one belief system is superior to another. In this journey, I learned that true harmony is not about conformity but about embracing the uniqueness of each individual. In writing Labyrinth of Dreams, I immersed myself in the characters' journeys, particularly Peter and Helen, whose real-life story has profoundly impacted me. Their marriage, born out of necessity rather than choice, was fraught with challenge; anger, regret, and mistrust. Yet, through it all, they chose to prioritize respect for each other’s individuality. This decision shaped how they raised their children, Sakura and Nevan, instilling in them the value of authenticity. By embracing their diversity, they learned to navigate the world with confidence and compassion, rising above societal biases. Diversity enriches our lives and broadens our perspectives. When we respect each person's unique path, we cultivate an environment where creativity thrives and collaboration flourishes. In a world that often seeks to categorize us, let's celebrate the richness that comes from our differences. As I celebrate my favorite season, Christmas, I am reminded of the power of love and respect that unite us beyond borders and beliefs. Let’s take this season as an opportunity to reflect on how we can honor and celebrate the diversity in our communities and relationships. Join me in promoting a culture of respect and understanding this holiday season. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels valued for who they are. 🎶❤️ #Diversity #Respect #Individuality #ChristmasSpirit #Harmony #FamilyValues #Inclusion
