THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE Strength in numbers. During a dinner conversation, friends Butch Whitfield, a realtor at Harry Norman Realtors; Liz Lapidus, founder of Liz Lapidus Strategic Communications; and Johanna Ellis-Reisinger, former owner of Atlanta Classic Cars began discussing their favorite nonprofits and how to enhance their impact. “Our goal was to develop a shared vision to guide the region’s conservation efforts,” says Whitfield. The result was Root Local that began with polling 250 environmental groups to test their interest. “We got responses from all the six sectors we identified: food systems, air and water quality management, canopy and land management, green buildings and practices, sustainable fashion and products, and travel and transportation,” says Whitfield. Using those replies, they developed a Network Map, a Collective Impact Plan and The Pollinator Network where online community members and organizations can come together to share ideas and learn how to become better stewards of the environment. “Interested citizens can register online and choose the sector that interests them most, whether its green buildings or sustainable fashion,” Whitfield says. Root Local acts as a conduit for them to support one another’s events through cross promotion and participation, and networking to find ways to work together. “Another Root Local goal is to create a template to share with other cities who want to increase their environmental impact by working together,” says Whitfield. 📝Mickey Goodman @rootlocal404 ROOT LOCAL rootlocal.org @rootlocal404 #TheRootOfTheIssue #CommunityImpact #CollectiveAction #EnvironmentalStewardship #ConservationEfforts #RootLocal #SustainableLiving #EnvironmentalAwareness

A new community-driven movement, the 'Sweep, Sweep' campaign, is inspiring individuals across the United States to take action for a cleaner and healthier planet, starting in their own neighborhoods. Co-created by Eva Almeida, Audrey Star, SK Cummings, and Sk Almeida, the initiative emphasizes that individual responsibility plays a crucial role in safeguarding the environment. 'If we want to save our planet, we need to start with our cities. Every effort counts,' explained Audrey Star, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry and a passionate advocate for sustainability. Through volunteer clean-up events, educational workshops, and a robust social media presence, the 'Sweep, Sweep' campaign encourages citizens to unite and preserve the beauty and well-being of their local surroundings. The initiative aims to build stronger, more connected communities while promoting urban cleanliness and environmental preservation. 'We want people to feel empowered, not just to clean their surroundings, but to come together and take pride in the places they live,' said Eva Almeida, co-creator of the campaign. @audreystarperfumecollection #sweepsweep #environmentalstewardship #communitydrivenchange

#TreeEquity is more than just planting trees — it's about creating healthier, more just communities. In too many neighborhoods, particularly those that are historically marginalized, tree cover is scarce, leading to hotter streets, poorer air quality and diminished well-being. As American Forests’ Tree Equity Ambassador, Jerome Foster II is working to close this "green gap" and ensure every neighborhood has access to the critical benefits that trees provide — cooling streets, improving air quality and enhancing quality of life. #ListeningSession 8 - GCF’s President and CEO, Matthew Randazzo and Chief Impact Officer, Rasheda Malcolm-Cromwell hosted an open forum with organizations in the environmental sector that enrich our region through environmental beautification, stewardship, education and more. The discussion covered a wide range of topics and shared experiences. Key takeaways include a need for flexible grant funding and on staff development positions; a desire for more connections between potential donors and nonprofits; increase in public awareness of environmentally focused organizations and community impact stories; and access to innovation stories that provide a roadmap for cross sector work. How do you think our region can better serve nonprofits working to protect our green spaces and increase access to fresh food and nature? What does a greener, greater Cincinnati look like?

What's your favourite place and why? What if our communities were green, walkable, and affordable? This mindset could transform our communities and positively impact our planet. The challenges we face - climate change, health, equity, and inclusion - are global. But effective solutions often start at the local level - in our public spaces and neighbourhoods. As part of our commitment to creating thriving communities, we've collaborated with the Town Team Movement in this article to discuss how a placemaking approach can help create a better future for all: https://lnkd.in/gUui5dZN We’re also inspired by Relationships Australia NSW's custodianship of Neighbour Day and their impactful "Neighbours Every Day" campaign to build community and resilience. Please tag other organisations in Australia that you know use placemaking to create more resilient, inclusive, liveable and regenerative towns and cities. #ConservationVolunteersAustralia #NatureBlock #NeighbourDay #TownTeamMovement #Placemaking #ResilientCities #Cities4Nature #Wellbeing #Community #Australia #LocalAction

🌍 Reflecting on my recent community feedback session following my NFF research workshops, I’m deeply inspired by the seeds of change already sown within the Far South of Cape Town communities. As we explore trans-species accompaniment and conservation, it’s clear that there is immense potential to shape pathways toward a thriving, sustainable future that includes all species. There’s much work ahead to understand how communities can actively co-create positive futures where both humans and nature flourish mutually, but seeing the commitment and ideas already present gives me hope. Together, these efforts embody resilience, collaboration, and a powerful drive for multi-species transformation and justice. Here’s to nurturing these seeds and fostering real, impactful change for people and nature alike. 🌱 #Multispeciescities #CommunityBuilding #FuturePathways #Sustainability #TransSpeciesAccompaniment

This past weekend one of our key suppliers posted this event they took part in upping their game in our minds as the truly sustainable brand that we love to have in our stock as a premier brand. Not only do they make a brand with purpose in mind, Sustainability, they also walk the talk in their company culture. The snow was still falling in a swirl in Calgary yesterday and today the sun is bright and clear in our skies. For Canada, this time of year means, crazy weather, new growth, the grass gets green, tulips pop, and river cleanups! Community spring clean-up events are fantastic opportunities for neighbours to come together and improve the appearance and livability of their neighbourhoods. They promote a sense of civic pride and unity while making tangible improvements to the local environment. Spring clean-ups also serve as a reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship and encourage individuals to take responsibility for keeping their communities clean and beautiful. The outfit of the day can look like this: thick soled boots, long pants, a long sleeve shirt, lots of garbage bags, ball caps and community spirit. There's always a group to join, a corporate event you can start within your company that can lead to your band of clean up crews. A quote from Atlantis Headwear's website, For us, being sustainable is not just an abstract concept, but a daily choice. Projects dedicated to reducing environmental impact, enhancing people and promoting culture are part of our strategy for a better future. Enhance your team today! #atlantisheadwear #sprincleanup #spring #corporateculture #sustainability
On Saturday, April 6, we had no time... to waste! In fact, the Atlantis team committed their morning to restore the shine to the city parks, cleaning them of trash left on the ground and in public green spaces The initiative, promoted by the Rotary Club, is part of an environmental education program in schools, which Atlantis joined with great enthusiasm and fun! #atlantisheadwear #headwearevolution #sustainability

Happy Earth Day, everyone! 🌍 As we celebrate our planet and all its wonders, let's not forget about the importance of estate planning for the future of our loved ones and the environment. Consider including environmental nonprofits in your estate plan (which can also minimize income and/or estate taxes). You may also consider the recent phenomenon of “green death” by including sustainable options and innovations when it comes to funerals and burial plans. By incorporating green initiatives into your estate plan, you can help ensure that your legacy lives on in a positive and impactful way. Let's work together to protect our planet for generations to come! #EarthDay #EstatePlanning #Sustainability
