What happens when diverse artists unite? At Under the Roof, we began with a vision: to bring artists from all backgrounds together under one roof, creating a platform for collaboration, conversation, and creative expression. Our journey started when founders Harry Brown, Sebastian Johnson, and Artem Spivak came together to launch our debut exhibition, inspired by Harry and Sebastian’s documentary, “What Does It Mean to Be a Man?” 🎬 From that first event, we knew we wanted to do more than just host exhibitions. We wanted to provide a platform where emerging and established artists could come together, engage audiences, and challenge artistic boundaries — all while exploring timely and thought-provoking themes. 🌍 Today, we continue to host dynamic events in venues across London, creating immersive experiences that inspire dialogue and push the limits of contemporary art. Scroll down to see a video from our very first event and how it all began! 📸 Join us as we bring together diverse voices, bold ideas, and global perspectives, all Under The Roof. The Cost of Creativity: Should Artists Pay to Be Recognized? For years, artists, designers, and creators worldwide have participated in prestigious international competitions, bringing innovation, enriching our surroundings, and inspiring society. These competitions offer us the chance to gain recognition for our efforts, our innovations, and to share ideas that improve quality of life and promote respect for nature. However, a question has been on my mind, one that invites reflection. My daughter, curious to understand, asked me: ‘Why do you pay to participate, to receive your trophy, and to attend the ceremonies?’ Her question took me by surprise and led me to think more deeply about the model behind these events. These competitions represent a significant personal and financial investment, and I wonder if this model is the best way to support those who innovate. Could we envision other approaches to encourage and promote creativity, lightening the burden for those who actively contribute to artistic and technological progress? I don’t question the competitions themselves—quite the opposite: they play a vital role in showcasing talent. But would it be possible to open a dialogue to explore new options? Partnerships, sponsorships, or alternative models that might, perhaps, ease this burden for creators? This reflection is, above all, an invitation to exchange ideas on how we can better honor those who dedicate their lives to enriching ours.

Retractable Seating- A Master Class They are usually used in spaces and venues which are multi-use spaces, therefore although they may need seating at times, in other situations they need the space for sport, theatre and other reasons. Retractable seating is often used in theatre and performing arts venues, educational establishments and sporting arenas; but is in no way confined to these locations. This is use innovation to utilize small spaces for multiple uses. #Innovation #Science #Engineering #Ideas

Recommendations for Reimagining the Arts and Culture Landscape (From Everette Taylor, CEO, Kickstarter) 1️⃣ Make Arts Funding More Accessible: With so many people creating art, our funding mechanisms need an overhaul. The current system favors established artists and large-scale projects, leaving emerging creators and smaller initiatives struggling to find support. We need to diversify grants by offering smaller, more numerous awards that can fuel a wider range of projects, lowering the barriers to entry and fostering innovation. Simplifying the application process and offering resources can also make funding more accessible to artists at every stage of their careers. To do this effectively, we must develop better ways to deploy funding at scale, minimizing transaction costs and maximizing impact. 2️⃣ Strengthen Community Among Art Makers: Why do so many people make art, yet hesitate to engage with arts events? Post-pandemic, people are craving connection and community. By creating both physical and virtual spaces where artists can share, collaborate, and exchange ideas, we can cultivate a more vibrant arts ecosystem. Local workshops, meetups, and online platforms can help build strong local and global arts communities, encouraging creators to become enthusiastic patrons themselves. In an interconnected world, fostering collaboration across disciplines can spark innovative projects that draw in wider audiences. At a time when AI is reshaping traditional art forms, cross-pollination within the arts is essential for a resilient, dynamic, and inclusive cultural landscape. 3️⃣ Expand Our Understanding of Art Making and Participation: What is art? Who is an artist? The pandemic has blurred traditional boundaries, challenging outdated notions of what art is and who gets to participate. We must expand our definitions to include emerging and nontraditional forms, ensuring a wider spectrum of creative expression is valued and supported. From digital art and virtual performances to consumer product art and social media collaborations, new forms are flourishing. By recognizing and funding these emerging mediums, we not only reflect the evolving nature of art but also embrace the diverse ways people engage with it. Our purpose in the arts is to support human expression and connection, and we must remain open to all its forms while recognizing the challenges they face. Everette concludes with this reminder: "In increasingly chaotic times, art and human expression can be a bridge to connection and understanding. By adapting to the full spectrum of creative expression, we can ensure the arts continue to inspire, challenge, and unite us in the years ahead." #Arts #Culture #AudienceEngagement #Community #Interdisciplinary #Artists #Leadership #Accessibility #Innovation #AI #Digital #Creativity #Philantrophy #Funding
