I agree wholeheartedly with your perspective, #AlanWildes. #Fear and #obligation have been twin sisters in motivating #generosity in the context of #churchfundraising within which I do most of my consultation. Fortunately, with the slow realization among #churchleaders that using hell as a means of scaring people into acceptable religious behavior patterns or using "obligations" - as if God is going to punish you if you ever miss a weekly worship service - to motivate people to fill a pew or to give generously have proven to be bankrupt motivators. Oh, you can use these methods to seek to control the right actions, and many #churches, #churchleaders, #pastors, and #christiandenominations do. However, the outcomes never produce enduring results or meaningful lifestyle changes. I share Carey N.'s perspective. There are many ways people are engaged. That's where church leaders should begin to nurture #spiritualgrowth and involvement. I enjoy serving with you, Alan, on the #GenerisTeam. Take a look at Alan's important words here.

“The community is not just the 'material' fact of people's common existence and activities [...]. By community we mean not the designations of this multiplicity of entities, but always the characteristic unity of this multiplicity” (Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, Person: Subject and Community, “Roczniki Filozoficzne” 24 (1976), issue 2, p. 22). This quote from Cardinal Karol Wojtyła characteristically tells us that community is not only the mere presence of many people in one place and time and their common activities. The need for communication between people who simply live or work together and, at the same time, constitute a community is important. A community is more than just a collection of people - it is a union that gives meaning to their being together. Community is relationships based on shared values, shared meaning, and solidarity, which is important for people's coexistence and actions. Today, when the individual character is so often promoted, the fragmentation of society and social limitations are frequently promoted with them. Cardinal Wojtyła reminds us that true community requires more than just physical presence and cooperation. It requires a connection that brings people together spiritually and morally. It also requires consciously building relationships that connect people spiritually and morally. #wojtyla #wojtyła #philosophy #philosophy #socialphilosophy #community #communitymatters #community #united #unity
