At Molloy University (and many other campuses), June 1st is the new May 1st this year. In light of the recent developments regarding the Department of Education’s delayed rollout of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), we recognize the challenges students are facing in finalizing their enrollment decisions. We want to assure all of our students that their concerns are valid and that their peace of mind is our priority. The extension is intended to give students the additional time needed to carefully consider their options and feel confident in their decisions to join the Molloy community! #GoLions _________________ For those unfamiliar with the significance and recent history of May 1, here’s a short summary. The May 1 date, which has been a milestone for generations of students as the day where they solidify where they plan to attend college in the Fall and is referred to as #NationalDecisionDay, has been been losing its meaning more and more each year. 2019 - The Justice Department sues NACAC for anti-trust violations and causing NACAC settle the case and delete multiple provisions, including the one where schools were not supposed to poach students after May 1st. 2020 - The COVID-19 pandemic caused a number of colleges and universities to extend their decision dates. 2024 - The Department of Education’s bungled rollout of the new FAFSA left many students looking for aid offers up until and after May 1 this year. #NotMay1st #FAFSA #HigherEducation
