The MicroTribology Centrum μTC, Michael Moseler and Christof Koplin, we have been at Polytrib2024. https://lnkd.in/e75ftyF7 “Exploring Friction and Wear Mechanisms of PTFE by Atomistic Simulations: Transfer Film Formation and the Synergy Between PTFE and PEEK” (M. Moseler et al.) They showed that “Chain orientation plays a fundamental role in the superior friction properties of PTFE, shear accommodates in PTFE, while PEEK prevents wear” “The effect of interaction energies on friction and wear of lubricated polymers” (C. Koplin et al.), I have answered on the introduced questions: https://lnkd.in/eGHCheC2 It was a very atmospheric conference and we met many interesting and research-interested people. Many thanks to the hosts and teams of Mitjan Kalin (Laboratory for tribology and interface nanotechnology, University of Ljubljana) and Nazanin Emami (Luleå University of Technology). #lubricants #schmierstoffe #maschinenbau #friction #polymer #tribologie #gears #spindle

What's the connection between the film "Erin Brockovich and NEOPROTECT project? Hexavalent chromium! The film is a dramatization of the story of the environmental activist Erin Brockovich-Ellis who investigates a case in which a large company is contaminating drinking water with hexavalent chromium derived from its production, causing several residents of a Californian town to fall sick. For its part, the NEOPROTECT project is developing new hexavalent chromium-free manufacturing methods for aluminium parts in the aeronautical and railway sectors. To meet this challenge, a multidisciplinary consortium: Chemplate Materials SL, Smallmatek - Small Materials and Technologies, Lda, and Titania with funds from @CDTI_innovacion. At Titania we are working to provide greener, healthier, and higher quality solutions to the current challenges facing the industry. AM Friends, Some Friday news: A very cool R&D project on additive manufacturing of copper nanocomposites is about to start at Bergische Universität Wuppertal in Germany next year. The goal is to find a copper material that combines high conductivity with strength. See more info below. I can’t imagine a better task for our Freemelt ONE system - the only E-PBF machine on the market tailored specifically for R&D! We already know that copper and E-PBF go well together. Here, I believe there are great opportunities to explore new E-PBF beam scanning strategies and investigate their effect on microstructure&mechanical properties as well as electrical&thermal properties. Our Pixelmelt® software will be put to the test, for sure. Also, I am sure that the Wuppertal team will make good use of the outstanding process monitoring features of Freemelt ONE. The machine has multiple ports for attaching cameras and other instruments, and of course electron imaging is also possible. The little scientist in me shouts out: Exciting times ahead!!! 📣 #freemelt #3dprinting #additivemanufacturing #epbf #electronbeam #copper #composite #nanoparticles #nanomaterial Silja-Katharina Rittinghaus
Freemelt AB is very proud to be a partner in the "NanoSTeW" project led by Dr. Silja-Katharina Rittinghaus at Bergische Universität Wuppertal. Her team will develop advanced copper nanocomposite materials using Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion. The project runs over five years and has received funding of two million Euros from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany. This is an exciting collaboration for us! More info here: https://lnkd.in/d_xz8RAs Dr. Rittinghaus' team got our Freemelt ONE system in 2023, and they have quickly developed amazing skills using it.
