The food packaging industry in Thailand plays a vital role in supporting its food sector's growth and ensuring product safety and sustainability. With five main stakeholders – material suppliers, packaging manufacturers, food producers, consumers, and waste processors – its supply chain is a complex ecosystem. The supply chain encompasses several stages, starting with the procurement of raw materials from suppliers, which are then transformed by packaging manufacturers into various forms such as PET bottles, pouches, and metal cans, tailored to the specific needs of end-users like producers of processed food and dairy products. Once packaged, products are distributed to wholesalers, retailers, and consumers. The supply chain's sustainability is further enhanced by the collection, separation, and recycling of waste generated. This recycled material is then returned to material suppliers, closing the loop, and promoting sustainable manufacturing practices. Dynamic Pricing in Grocery Stores: Is it Here to Stay? Recently, grocery chains have come under controversy for implementing ESLs (electronic shelf labels) in their stores. Because these labels are more easily changeable than paper labels, they are often used in combination with dynamic pricing strategies, which leverage data to adjust the prices of certain items depending on factors like seasonality and demand. While there is a risk of retailers using dynamic pricing to exploit consumers, research has shown that effective dynamic pricing helps both shoppers and businesses. According to a 2023 study conducted by UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management, dynamic pricing can make perishable items more affordable and reduce food waste by 21%, giving it an additional environmental benefit. 🌳🍃 Is dynamic pricing the next big thing in retailing, and which sector do you think will adopt dynamic pricing next? Let us know your thoughts below! 💭 https://lnkd.in/eHke-mED #pricingstrategy #foodsustainability #datainretail #futureofgrocery

On the “European connecting days 2024” Freshfel was invited to an event organized by the Province of South Holland to explore with all necessary parties plan for greener and faster transportation for fresh produce and the upcoming launch of an fresh produce train connection from Valencia to Rotterdam and up to Oslo. Freshfel Europe as the representative European fresh fruit and vegetables sector presented the current state of play of intra-EU exchange of fresh fruit and vegetables in the EU. Worth 28,5 Mio T, today most of the transportation takes place by trucks, and requires yearly about 1,5 million movements. Given high perishability and just in time delivery without shortages on the supermarket’s shelf, an efficient and performant logistics is needed for punctual delivery with minimal stocks. Sustainability concerns and environmental footprint & CSRD reporting imply that the fresh produce sector should look at minimizing its transport footprint of fresh produce which could represent more than 30% of its footprint. Freshfel presented the main fresh produce corridors and trade flow from the Iberic Peninsula to the Netherlands and onwards to Scandinavia or Germany and Poland and other trade flow up from Italy further North. The trade flow review by Freshfel highlighted the current logistic’s needs from main shippers’ countries (Spain, Netherlands, France, Italy, Poland or Belgium) and the main recipients (Germany, France, Netherlands or Poland) and the corresponding CO2 emissions. Freshfel made the first ever EU estimation of comparative CO2 emissions for the fresh produce exchange among the 28 Member States by trucks (about 4,5 Mio T of CO2 ) and in case of a full shift to train (about 900.000 T of CO2). Intra EU fresh produce shipments are currently almost exclusively made by trucks. Those have the advantage of higher speed, flexibility, just in time delivery and door to door options which are important for the quality and freshness of perishable products but have negatively and higher footprint which and be somehow improve in the future with other greener source of energy for trucks such as electricity or hydrogen. Trains have currently a major environmental footprint advantage but for its development need to address an number of pending issues regarding the fragmentation of the Single Market, the infrastructure to improve speed and shorten journey, the need of prioritization goods over passengers, the need to diversify corridors and connections with existing hubs, wholesale markets and ports, the overtime increase frequencies of the offer and look at customers for return journey to improve competitiveness given the unbalance of volume between suppliers and recipients countries. FreshRail is to launch its first commercial weekly services for fresh produce in 2024 between Valencia and Rotterdam to be continued up to Oslo and other additional plans of extension are considered as of 2026.

Dear LinkedIn Community, I hope this message finds you well! I am reaching out to gather your valuable #insights and #opinions on a topic that holds significance not just for our #health but also for the #environment: the choice between purchasing fresh #rawmilk in glass bottles or opting for #polypack milk packets. In recent times, there has been a growing interest in returning to more traditional methods of #milk consumption, with an increasing number of consumers showing a preference for fresh raw milk served in #glassbottles. This resurgence is not only driven by the desire for a more #natural and unprocessed product but also by environmental concerns regarding the use of #plasticpackaging . Here are a few points to consider: 🥛 Freshness and Taste: Many believe that milk stored in glass bottles retains its freshness and flavor better compared to milk packaged in polypacks. The absence of any additional preservatives or processing may contribute to a more authentic taste experience. 🌿 Environmental Impact: Glass bottles are reusable and recyclable, making them a more sustainable option compared to single-use plastic polypacks, which contribute to environmental pollution and waste accumulation. 💡 Consumer Preferences: Understanding your preferences and priorities as consumers is vital in shaping the direction of the dairy industry. Your feedback can help us tailor our offerings to better meet your needs and preferences. With your permission, I'd like to ask a few questions: 1) What factors influence your choice between purchasing fresh raw milk in glass bottles or polypack milk packets? 2) Are environmental considerations a significant factor in your #decisionmaking process when it comes to #dairyproducts ? 3) Would you be willing to pay a slightly higher price for fresh raw milk in glass bottles if it meant contributing to #environmental #sustainability? Your input is immensely valuable in helping us navigate to important real time information. Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time and participation.
