📊𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝘆 𝗴𝗮𝗽 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮! Today, 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆 — the 50 days past the end of the financial year that women have to keep on working to earn the same, on average, as men. Despite some solid progress this year, Australia’s national Gender Pay Gap reporting is *𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹* failing to fully capture the nuances experienced by women and gender-diverse people with intersecting marginalised identities. An intersectional approach would allow us to understand how gender overlaps with other intersectional identities. We would then be able to measure the impact that systemic oppression and discrimination is experienced. People’s experiences of gender-based discrimination are compounded by their intersecting identities such as race, socio-economic status, sexuality, neurodiversity and disability. A report by Victoria's Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector found: 🔹 Women who come from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds are paid 19% less than their male colleagues. 🔹 There is a 21% deficit between First Nations women’s paychecks and their non-Indigenous male colleagues. In fact, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘆 𝗴𝗮𝗽 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽 according to the Economic Policy Institute. But beyond pay gaps, this is about how who gets hired, heard, promoted, supported, and everything in between, all the small and big things that add up to big inequities. Enable banks, issuers, programme managers and tech companies to become their own card processor....... Well, 25+ years ago, that was my thought process and I couldn't understand why there so few processors for issuing and acquiring. Fast forward a few times and a few years, I remember clearly sitting in Maddox Street with David Parker looking at the payment landscape and his detailed overview of the players (issuers/programme managers/processors). What struck me was the number of issuers and programme managers was growing quickly, but the number of processors was pretty limited. Same thing in my meetings in the mid 2000's with Phil Davies, when he was at MasterCard. That meeting and David's regular updates formed the basis of a business plan that has taken me 18 years to either forget about or figure out with my fellow conspirators at www.themsl.com. Why so few processors and why aren't more banks/issuers and programme managers their own processor? It's not original by any means, I was a huge fan of RS2 in Malta in 2006, with a legendary founder Reinhold Schaeffter, thanks to Damian Mifsud and recently Episode Six (E6) with the licencing model enabling companies to become their own processor. Some hard work, some really smart tech people -Mike Muscato, Roderick Caruana, Clive Cauchi, Conor Doyle for example - (not me, I can't even tune the TV channels...) and a willingness to think outside the box. Result - we can licence or sell (including the source code) to any entity that wants to be their own processor for a fraction of the cost of providing processing as a managed service. Running at over 9000 Transactions Per Second, using the ENGIN switch from Muscato Corporation, creating multiple instances of the platform with BI and Data Lake and Compliance-as-a-service built-in. Sorry for the 'sell' in this post but it has been 18 years of a thought in my head and I am really grateful to the team for making it a reality. They have made a happy man very old, or something like that
