SketchUp played a central role in helping Tokyu Construction get consensus and communicate real-time reflection of plan changes for the once-in-a-century redevelopment of Shibuya Station. "By introducing SketchUp, it became possible to reflect changes to the plan in real time. I believe that this change has brought benefits not only to those involved in the construction, but also to all stakeholders, including local residents, government officials, police, and road managers." said Tokyu Construction's Nakahiro Ikeda, director of the Digital Technology Integration Promotion Office, Railway and Civil Engineering Department, Urban Development Branch. #3Dmodeling #DigitalTransformation #SketchUpCaseStudy #ShibuyaStation #InfrastructureConstruction Read more below 👇

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭: 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 Design and build contracts are becoming increasingly popular in the construction industry because they offer several advantages compared to traditional models that separate design and construction. In a design and build contract, you only need to sign one contract with one party to receive integrated design and construction services. This is different from the traditional model, where you have to hire architects and contractors separately. 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗲𝘆! In previous posts, I have discussed the location of your land and its importance. But another key element is your architect. He is not only responsible for creating your engineering plan but also for thinking about the perfect layout. When I lease new land, I make sure to meet with the architect at the site to observe the surroundings, entrance, drainage system, etc. For example, in this picture, we went to see 3 new land plots in Kedungu. I have immense respect for architects. In my case, I bombard him with numerous ideas... but he is the one who has to bring them to life. I love seeing how ideas transform into reality.

Entry no. 10 𝐌𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐒 𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥/𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐲 (Batch 2) We’re thrilled to unveil the entries for this year’s competition, celebrating the most outstanding structural designs in the Philippines! Your support matters! Here’s how you can help your favorite entries shine: 1 Reaction = 1 Point 1 Share = 2 Points Project Description: The structure is composed of underground chambered concrete tanks supported by driven piles and a single-story concrete building at the top. The structural configuration of the single-story is intended to have a frame action in the longitudinal and transverse direction of the building. The design assessment of a structural member entails the selection and checking of a cross section that will safely and economically resist the applied loads.

Better to live and work in respectful harmony than to declare war! There are very many examples of excellent design where the complementary but different skills of engineers and architects have created enduring masterpieces that are much greater than either discipline could have achieved alone.
"I hereby declare war on architects. !!" ^^ As a bridge and structural engineer, I’ve often found myself at odds with architectural designers. They come up with the most ambitious, and at times utterly impractical, designs that they hand over to us structural engineers, expecting us to bring their wild visions to life. Of course, they proudly showcase their stunning and artistic designs, full of flair and imagination. But what they don’t see is that, for us structural engineers, this is where the nightmare begins. The complexity of their ideas often pushes the boundaries of what’s feasible in the real world, leaving us to solve the countless technical challenges they’ve overlooked. We spend countless hours trying to figure out how to make their dreams stand up to gravity, wind, and the laws of physics. The constant tug-of-war between the idealistic vision of architects and the hard reality we engineers face is an ongoing battle that never seems to end. This clash between creativity and practicality is a war in itself. "However, we respect and admire each other." The bridge in the video is Saetgang Bridge, located in Yeouido, Korea, and it has a very complex structure. During construction, the displacement of the bridge was significant, making geometric control extremely challenging. Additionally, the adjustment range of the cables was minimal, requiring detailed structural analysis to determine the adjustment values for each stage of construction. #bridge #cable #design #construction #engineering

AAMI Park in Australia is a modern marvel in structural engineering. The roof of AAMI Park actually boasts several geodesic domes, packed together like a complicated soap-bubble surface. To build a geodesic system, you piece together interlocking polygons to form a sphere. The resulting structure is strong yet uses far fewer materials than something similar built with traditional construction methods. And yet the stadium still manages to use 50 percent less steel than a typical cantilever structure. Modern structural engineering can both save money, materials utilized and provide safe structures for the community.
