🌟 What I Learned This Week 🌟 This week has been a journey of growth, discovery, and intentional effort toward becoming a better software developer and person. I’m excited to start sharing my weekly reflections to inspire others and hold a space for conversation. Here are my takeaways: 1️⃣ Surround yourself with people who have grit. Being part of a community that pushes you to grow is a game-changer. Joining the TechNest Community this week during orientation really solidified why I want to be a software developer. The energy, motivation, and shared passion reminded me that I’m on the right path. 2️⃣ Negative bias is natural but can be overcome. Negative bias exists because it’s hardwired into us for survival. It helps us avoid danger, but in today’s world, it can also hold us back. The trick is to notice it and counterbalance it with intentional positivity and gratitude. A little mindfulness can go a long way! So, I've started a gratitude journal. 3️⃣ You're in the right environment if your ideas are heard. This week, I rewrote some practice questions for students because I noticed they struggled to connect concepts to real-life scenarios. I created relatable problems, like: - Flagging Suspicious Activity > Scenario: If the domain doesn’t match, your friend wants the system to flag it as suspicious and send an alert. - Task: > Create a variable isSuspiciousDomain and assign it the opposite of isTrustedDomain. For example, if the domain does not match “traveljournal.com” it should return true I reached out to the instructor, shared what I had created, and it was well received with praise. I was even given the go-ahead to work on more practice questions, which reinforced how impactful a supportive and open environment can be. What did you learn or work toward this week?

From 1,000 to 5,000! I still remember the day ( Feb 2023), when I was going through Zistre's inbox and came across a message that made my day. It was from one of our students, our 1,000th to be exact. She shared how, with just three days of prep, she was able to ace the CCAT with an 88%. Her words— “Money well spent”—meant more than just a positive review; they reinforced why we started Zistre. Since that day, Zistre has grown from 1,000 candidates to a tribe of over 5,000 individuals from 74+ countries on their journey to mastering Job Tests. Each milestone, each testimonial, reminds me of the true purpose behind building something from scratch: helping people achieve their goals and making a real difference. To anyone out there in the grind of building, learning, or starting something new, remember this: every single step, every bit of feedback, every little milestone… it all adds up. If you’re putting in the work and staying true to your mission, the impact you're making is more significant than you might realize right now. Here's to continued growth, persistence, and purpose. Onwards and upwards!

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗠𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 Three years ago, I made a roadmap for myself. It wasn’t fancy—just a simple plan with one clear goal: 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆. That roadmap became my guiding light as I started my coding journey. Fast forward to today, I feel proud to share that I’ve been placed in not one, but 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 during placements! But let me be honest—it wasn’t a smooth ride. There were moments of rejection, self-doubt, and feeling like I wasn’t good enough. Some days were tough, but what kept me going was one simple belief: ->𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴. I wasn’t the smartest in the room, but I showed up every day. I coded, practiced, learned from my mistakes, and improved little by little. That hustle, that grit—that’s what made the difference. If you’re on your own journey, trust me when I say this: -> Stay consistent. -> Embrace the ups and downs. > Believe in yourself, even when it’s hard. The results will come—just keep hustling. 💪

We talked about how to do well in our jobs, the mistakes to avoid once you’ve started, and how to promote yourself as a software engineer, along with other important topics. The episode will be published soon in sha Allah on Amar iSchool.

June's challenge was to write two letters, one of appreciation and one to someone who hurt you. I admit, I did postpone them a bit, but I got it done. Here are two sentences from each letter: "Thank you for pushing when it wasn't easy!" - Yes, I wrote the appreciation letter the to myself. "Everything that happened was a building block for the person that I am today." ------------------ July's challenge is to stay away from social media at least one day per week. We are so connected to technology that we need a break from time to time. Good luck, see you next month! #alwaysimprove #growthmindset #monthlychallenge

📚 Typically, when there is no specific time reserved for employees to do professional development, it gets skipped over. That's why at Blackbaud we have Tech Thursdays - a dedicated day for employees to do something other than what they do every day! Tech Thursday is: - An avenue for innovation - An opportunity to try something new (tool, language, market, process) that you otherwise wouldn't have time to try - A time to vet a small idea that you're not sure is worth pursuing - A day to catch up on things that have gotten away from you - A break from your daily job - Part of our culture of learning. 👩💻 Today, as a part of my Tech Thursday learning, I completed Renata's #playwright course on TestAutomationU (it's completely free by the way). This course is an excellent introduction to this test automation framework that has been gaining a lot of traction lately, and is also used by some teams in our organization. Having a dedicated block of time for professional development meant that I could disconnect from my daily work responsibilities, ignore slacks and emails (I was almost successful at that 😜 ) and focus on the learning process. 📚 What are your thoughts on this perk? Do you get dedicated learning time at work, and if you do, how do you typically use it?
