What is Energy Modelling? As a practice, we now offer Energy Modelling as part of our service - but how does this help our clients? Energy modelling is a powerful tool that allows architects and designers to simulate the energy performance of a building before any physical changes are made. By creating a virtual representation of the building using software, we can analyse how various factors—such as insulation, window placement, and heating systems—affect energy consumption. This insight is invaluable in identifying the most effective strategies for reducing energy use and minimising the building's carbon footprint. Read more about how we use energy modelling on our recent blog. https://lnkd.in/est6Mvvc #architecturepractice #energymodelling #retrofit #enerphit #architecture #clientworkshop #passivhausdesign

Managing assets, either in their development or renewal, is hard at the best of times, and unfortunately in our experience, we see people leave it too late in many projects, to consider the electrical design properly. If we are engaged early we can reduce costs all-round, and optimise the performance of any given asset. Let's face it without power assets are lifeless. We excel at complex infrastructure and buildings design with over 80 years of combined experience. For us, no problem is too hard to solve.

EXPLORING GREENER ENGINEERING PRACTICE IN CONSTRUCTION. What do you understand by Green Engineering ? can we say that the practice of Green Engineering is sustainable? The concept of green building has being scaling from small houses to big offices and skyscrapers around the globe. Some international certification have been developed in order to provide clear guild lines on how to do it. The U.S. Green Building Counsel (USGBC) developed the leadership in Energy and Environment. They also developed leadership in energy and environment designs (Known as LEED) to rate green buildings and promote owners with a framework of cost-saving, high-efficiency, and health fie designs, constructions, operations, and maintenance. Another popular certification is the building research establishment environment Assessment method from the U.K. Zero-energy buildings have on-site renewable power source like solar panels to try and produce as much clean energy as it consumes. You can always do 100% but the goal is to get as much as you can. The power generated during the day time is consumed by the facilities, and if there’s an energy surplus, the building delivers it to the grid to try and compensate for grid energy consumption at night. However to improve efficiency, energy consumption needs to be reduced, so heating, cooling and lighting needs to be minimized. To achieve that it’s recommended to integrate things like green roof, energy-efficient, windows with triple-pane glass and a law-emissivity. Coating, as well as good insulation. Net- zero buildings are also considered “Green” if they are constructed with non-toxic, eco-friendly and sustainable materials. They should also use less water and have a good air quality, so it becomes more sustainable. But, taken things to the next level, engineers and architect can perform advance analysis through 3D buildings energy stimulation tools to achieve higher efficiencies. #GreenEngineering #construction

It's a belated post, but had a nice time last week at the AIA Michigan #Archifusion conference presenting on #NetZero buildings and the role of energy modeling in sustainable building design. As owner demand for highly sustainable buildings continues to grow, architects and engineers must have a shared technical language about energy performance, and work to identify their most efficient workflows and levels of detail for energy modeling. This will only become more important over the next 10 years, as ASHRAE has committed to strengthening Standard #90.1 into a Zero Carbon Emission standard by 2031. This means that by the mid 2030s, Michigan Energy Code will require buildings designed to meet Net Zero regardless whether the owner asks for it. Significant energy savings will be required throughout the built environment to pull this off - MEP systems, Architectural envelopes, passive design, and even receptacle loads. Peter Basso Associates maintains a standing Net Zero focus group, which works to share the latest developments in sustainability and lessons learned on advanced energy projects throughout the company. We look forward to helping you determine the right level of sustainable performance on your next project!
