It’s #KnifeCrimeAwarenessWeek this week, but for the @MayorofLondon and here at MOPAC we are committed to tackling knife crime and spreading awareness about its dangers and devastating consequences 365 days a year. That’s why, in 2019, he established England’s first Violence Reduction Unit to prevent violence through early intervention. Through engaging activities and partnerships in local communities, we strive to educate young people by steering them away from gangs and crime. https://lnkd.in/eM-McrjS Using state-of-the-art technology, the @MayorofLondon’s GPS tagging programme has tagged over 2,100 high-risk domestic abuse and knife crime offenders since 2019. In addition, we’re also working with officers to tackle hotspots for robbery which often involves knives. Our new Reducing Robbery Partnership is bringing together the police, local authorities and local businesses to identify and target crime hotspots. The @MayorofLondon has also called for tougher restrictions on blades and has urged the government to press ahead with a stricter ban on zombie knives and machetes to make London safer.

(Content warning: domestic violence) Can system mapping save lives? In a recent project led by Christian Anibarro, the team worked with the Los Angeles County Office of Violence Prevention to redesign and improve access to domestic violence restraining orders (DVROs). DVROs are proven to be effective, but access to them to can be riddled with barriers. The work the Office undertook with our team has the power to increase the number of people who are granted DVROs, and mostly importantly, may reduce fatalities. Check out our newest case study at the link in the comments to learn more. #systemmapping #violenceprevention #processimprovement
