The minimum viable product (MVP) is an incredible product development concept, but most people do not know what it means. People misunderstand it with half-backed products and consider MVP comparable to the milestone in conventional waterfall projects. They are not the same. MVP means finding exactly what problem you are solving, for whom, and why. Product development speed is often inversely proportional to decision clarity! Counter-intuitive? Maybe. The more we try to define every detail, the slower we move. I have lived this: - Project A: 3 months of detailed planning. Result? Delayed launch and outdated features. - Project B: An emergency bug fix last week. No time for perfect plans. Result? We shipped in 48 hours. So what's going on here? Clear decisions often mean we are trying to consider every possible edge case, every hypothetical future outcome, or gathering endless consensus. Now, think about when teams move the fastest. It’s not when every detail is mapped out. It’s when ambiguity pushes us to focus on what’s essential. Like when a competitor's launch forces us to ship quickly, or when a customer pain point needs solving immediately. In these moments, clarity takes a backseat to momentum. Teams shift into high gear, driven by necessity, not perfect planning. This doesn’t mean decision clarity isn’t valuable, but when we over-engineer it, it becomes a bottleneck.
