I've been enjoying the very laid back atmosphere in Kalk Bay (on leave), so didn't quite get round to posting this follow up quite as soon as I wanted to! Last week I joined a panel session for doctors finishing their community service - basically aiming to provide as much practical knowledge as possible for navigating a career after your mandatory state service. Ultimately, we looked at answering the question - "What do I do now?" It was a stellar lineup - some highlights from my favourite speakers (and a bit of paraphrasing): Shrikant Peters (Public Health Physician, WC) - Emphasis on a far more competitive job environment - Doctors having three years guaranteed employment is a disadvantage in some regards (limited interview experience) - Excellent Z88 and CV compilation advice - "Write a CV for the job you are applying for..." and "interview for the job you are applying for..." - Highlighting the value of practicing for interviews izak maree (Financial Director - ER Consulting) - Highlighted competitive space - approx. 200 applications per post - Sound overview of the emergency medicine space - Always surprised that doctors do not think how medicine is going to look in the future - Emphasis on a transforming medical landscape - specifically AI and technology in Medicine Jana Eksteen (General Practitioner) - Candid talk on opening and running your own GP practice - "You need courage and cash.." - "You are earning the largest salary you will earn for the next 10 years..." - Highlighted steps to register a business practice Tebogo Segoe (Investec Private Banker) - Brilliant chat on financial savvy and starting a practice - "A bank will believe in you when you believe in yourself..." Here are the results of our latest trial- we'll look at a proportionate sampling of charts for your agency. We have volume pricing to account for agency size (our costs do not go lower with volume, unfortunately). Star Ratings don't tell the whole story, but we find a correlation with star ratings and reimbursement. We still find reimbursement, but amounts are usually a little lower with higher star ratings. Lower star ratings usually mean higher reimbursement being left on the table- usually. Summary: 5 Star Agency in California Sample Size: 10 Charts Total Reimbursement Left on the table: $3,183.45 mix of Previously coded SOC, ROC, Recert, and OASIS scrubbed but uncoded SOC Average gain: $318.34 per chart ROI: 530% Monthly Gain (assumption of 100 admits/OASIS per month) $31,834.50 Monthly Bill: $6000 (volume discounts available) Monthly Profit $25,834.50 Annual Gain: $382,014 Annual Profit $310,014 Annual Bill: $72,000 Clinical Details: We found additional reimbursement on 5 of 10 charts. Many SOC were Maxed out on OASIS so no dollars were available to be gained. Chart Recap: We found a lot of codes that shouldn't have been coded but were, and many that should have been coded but weren't. The OASIS and coding work together, and that brings accuracy.
