#COTEDIVOIREMININGNEWS   The town of Kong, in the north of the Ivory Coast, will be home to a 50 MW solar power plant in 2026. The agreement for its construction was signed by Côte d'Ivoire's finance and energy ministers, as well as representatives of companies involved in the energy sector. The project is part of the government's drive to promote renewable energies and enhance the country's energy mix. Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are a key element for the success of the energy transition – and that is why MET Group acquired COMAX France, a Bordeaux-based BESS developer with a project pipeline of several hundred MW in various stages of development. “We will provide the capital needed to implement these projects,” MET Chairman and CEO Benjamin Lakatos told Elsa Bembaron, energy market reporter at leading French daily newspaper Le Figaro, in an interview last week. “We are convinced that the BESS market offers significant growth potential.”   “The first issue is security of supply,” Benjamin Lakatos added when talking about the acquisition of COMAX France. Attended by Bakary SAKHO, Vice-President of FENEM, the meeting aimed to make the integration of solar energy a reality, in order to diversify the country's energy mix. FENEM plays a key role in encouraging public and private partnerships to support this initiative and promote energy efficiency.
