🚀 Excited to share my very first Internship Experience 🚀

This summer, I had the privilege of working as a Robotics Intern at Sharang Shakti, a cutting-edge defense robotics startup founded by graduates of IIT-Delhi. The company is at the forefront of developing counter-UAV technologies to combat threats along our nation’s borders.
I had the incredible opportunity to contribute in some fascinating projects that I’m eager to talk about. My work majorly lies in the areas of Control theory for drones, some of the key highlights of my project are:
🔍 Project Highlight 1: State Estimation for Drones
One of my key contributions was applying the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to estimate the state of a quadcopter drone—specifically, its orientation and velocity. This wasn’t just a simple task; it involved fusing data from multivariate sensors like the IMU, GPS, and Barometer on their custom based flight controller. By leveraging the power of Kalman filter and underlying mathematics, we could achieve the best possible estimate of the drone’s state, ensuring more accurate and stable flight control.
🎯 Project Highlight 2: Real-Time Drone Detection
Another exciting part of my internship was onboarding a 77GHz FCW Nanoradar for real-time drone/object detection directly on the drone itself. I worked on configuring the radar using the CAN protocol on the STM32 for specific use case of short-range detection of drones,also to enable fast and efficient communication between components. This work is vital for scenarios where rapid detection and response are critical.

It was an incredible experience to work in an environment where groundbreaking research and innovations are taking place, particularly in the fields of drones and robotics for the defense of our nation. Being part of a team dedicated to advancing technologies that play a critical role in safeguarding our country was truly inspiring.
This journey has deepened my understanding of sensor fusion, real-time processing, and the complexities of drone technology. I’m incredibly grateful for the experience and am looking forward to the future challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
