China has successfully completed the first-ever drone delivery tests on Mt. Everest, paving the way for improved high-altitude mountaineering, rescue, and environmental efforts. A DJI FlyCart 30 drone was used to transport oxygen bottles and supplies from Base Camp to Camp 1, while also collecting trash from the mountain. The drone demonstrated its capabilities by carrying 15kg of supplies in just 12 minutes, flying as high as 6,191.8m in the process. This achievement showcases the potential for drones to revolutionize logistics, clean-up, and safety on Mt. Everest. Following the success of these tests, a Nepali company plans to start drone operations on Everest from May 22. Additionally, there are plans to utilize drones on Mt. The proliferation of drone operations, which a new PwC report predicts will double globally to 28 million by 2029, raises an urgent requirement for safe, efficient and sustainable unmanned traffic management (UTM) systems. In response to this fundamental shift in aviation infrastructure across the globe, PwC’s Global Centre of Excellence in Drone and Satellite Technologies’ new report sets out the fundamental importance of a coordinated approach among diverse stakeholders in the UTM ecosystem. "What are those lights in the sky?" It's a common question these days, with drones often being the answer. According to the FAA, there are over one million registered drones in the U.S. alone. But how does this growing presence impact planes and jets sharing the same airspace? There’s increasing concern about the safety implications of drones, including the risk of collisions with aircraft and the effects on traveler safety. Regulatory authorities and the aviation industry are taking these risks seriously. Ethan Levy, CEO of Tidal Jets, Inc., recently stated: "Investments in drone detection, geofencing, and counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) technologies will be vital to safeguarding airspace from unauthorized incursions." The FAA has established rules regarding drone size, operation, and operator registration to help address these challenges. There you’ll find Skyway36, which is being billed not as an airport, but a droneport. There, businesses can test more complicated types of drone flights, including those where the drone flies beyond the operator’s line of sight, or flights using laser aircraft that would theoretically be capable of carrying humans......” “DronePort Network manages the site under contract to Osage, LLC. The site marks the first commercial node on the Skyway Range Flight Corridor, a 114-nautical mile drone corridor. Vigilant Aerospace provides the droneport’s airspace management and UTM system, effectively serving as the area’s drone traffic controller. Through its data sets, it can predict the future trajectories of drones. From there, it can offer up standards-compliant avoidance commands to the drone’s pilot.
