𝟰𝟴𝟬𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟮𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗹𝗱— 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗖 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗦 ASEC ENGINEERS got a chance to work on a unique and challenging project, designing a lattice tower. The utility company needed to increase wire tensions, but the existing structures were not strong enough to handle the load. The AESEC team conducted a thorough analysis of the aging towers. We found that while the original design had served its purpose for over a century, it was no longer viable for the increased wire tensions required. We made a bold decision: construct new river crossing structures. But this wasn’t a simple replacement. We had to: ▶︎ Work with the construction team to erect the new structures without compromising the energized lines. ▶︎ Execute precise explosive demolition of the old towers without damaging the newly installed tower The new 480ft tall towers, the tallest in the continental US, now stand strong, supporting the increased wire tensions and ensuring a reliable energy supply for the region. Special thanks to Gokul Narayanan, P.E., Scott Dodds, and Pankaj Deshmukh, PE, for sharing your processes and insights with the power delivery engineering community. #innovation #technology #energy #sustainability #electricalengineering ASEC ENGINEERS - Engineering your success, delivering precision and innovation in every project since 1991.

Join the ABAA and Building Enclosure Magazine on December 3, 2024 for The Evolving Landscape of Commercial Energy Efficiency, presented by Keith A. Simon, FAIA and Stephen Shanks, CxA, BECxP, NDT Level III: This course equips owners, architects, engineers, and construction professionals with the knowledge to navigate the evolving landscape of commercial energy efficiency codes and their critical role in sustainable and energy-efficient building design. We will delve into the most recent and upcoming energy codes and standards, with a focus on ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC, and explore their implications for building enclosure design and performance. Energy codes are instrumental in achieving energy-efficient buildings within our built environment. We will examine key requirements of these codes and their impact on building enclosure design, materials, and systems. Additionally, the course will highlight the importance of Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) – a quality-assurance process that ensures the building enclosure meets design intent and performance requirements. The BECx process, including design review, field testing, and functional testing, helps identify and address issues related to air and water leakage, thermal performance, and moisture management. Through engaging case studies and real-world examples, participants will gain valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of implementing energy codes and BECx in their projects. Furthermore, the course will explore emerging trends and innovations in building enclosure design and commissioning, offering a glimpse into new materials, technologies, and performance metrics shaping the future of the industry. Weather conditions, particularly temperature variations, significantly influence the behavior of railway tracks. Extreme heat can cause excessive expansion, while freezing temperatures can lead to contraction. Expansion gaps are designed to accommodate these fluctuations. However, extreme weather events can still pose challenges. Excessive rainfall, for instance, can cause water to seep into the gaps, potentially affecting their functionality. Therefore, railway authorities must implement robust maintenance and monitoring systems to ensure the effectiveness of expansion gaps under various weather conditions
📝 Expansion gaps are present at certain points of the railway infrastructure. 👉Expansion gaps are small spaces left between sections of train tracks. 🙌Here are some important insights : 👉These small gaps are left between sections of rail to allow for #thermal #expansion and #contraction due to temperature changes. 👉These gaps are important because they allow the metal rails to expand and contract as the temperature changes. ✓ When it's hot, the metal rails can get longer, ✓ And when it's cold, they can get shorter. 👉Without these gaps, the rails could warp or buckle, causing problems for trains. So, the gaps help keep the tracks safe and in good condition, no matter the weather. ➡️These gaps are essential for maintaining the safety and functionality of the railway 🚃 🚂 system. The presence of expansion gaps is paramount for ensuring the safety of railway operations. When trains traverse tracks, they exert enormous pressure on the rails. If the rails were fixed rigidly without any allowance for movement, this pressure, combined with temperature fluctuations, could lead to rail failures. Expansion gaps act as safety valves, preventing such disasters by absorbing the stress caused by thermal expansion. Consequently, they play a critical role in safeguarding both passengers and railway infrastructure.
