The Day1Model is extremely close to being useable so I thought I'd answer the question: What problems does it solve? It solves the vast majority of problems I've encountered as a senior planner on projects around the world. It pulls the schedule out of the darkness of the proprietary and specialized world and makes the plan easy to understand by the entire team. It is as useful to a production crew as it is to a corporate project VP. It makes the plan fluid and makes generating what-ifs on the fly in full view of the project team a reality. That same VP can use the slider to do what-ifs in their office. The superintendent can see exactly what production is required to support the project completion date...and use the slider to see where he or she is heading if they continue at the current pace. It compares the schedule to the progress required to make the completion dates. I always thought comparing a schedule against a schedule didn't make a lot of sense. What if the schedule you are comparing the schedule to is inaccurate? I know there are calculations you can do but why? And who really understands them besides a select few? At it's core the Day1Model gets the project singing from the same music sheet and cuts the games to a bare minimum. I can't wait to do a demo.
