From Amsterdam to Glasgow and alternative proteins to water. Doesn't seem like there is an obvious link here but I'll be attending the Circular Economy in the Water Sector Crucible hosted by Hydro Nation Chair and Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre on Wednesday this week. Discussing how to embrace a circular economy in the water sector Sustainability isn't just a buzzphrase, it's crucial to feeding (and watering) the world with as little environmental impact as possible. Only through collaboration through whole system approaches can we make a meaningful impact.

We are delighted to confirm the date for our joint Crucible with IBioIC on 'Embracing the #CircularEconomy in the #Watersector Join us: 📅 30 Oct 2024 📍 Technology Innovation Centre University of Strathclyde The importance of #resourcerecovery in the water industry is increasing, not only as a means for mitigating its impact on the environment, but also for stimulating circular economy opportunities. Over recent years, water companies have been focused on energy as a resource to be recovered. However, there are still numerous unexploited opportunities that can be unlocked through research and innovation activities. Circular economy approaches will play a key role in delivering net zero by 2040 across the water sector in a changing climate, and will require a multidisciplinary approach to develop and deliver opportunities at pace. ♻️ Do you work on Circular Economy approaches? 🖥️ Could your work apply circular economy principles or even be considered within a circular economy agenda? 👥 Are you interested in exploring opportunities and collaborations within the circular economy agenda? 🌍 I found this particularly interesting—and surprising—that biomanufacturers are still navigating the concept of sustainability, without a clear answer yet. James Dean Vogel, founder of The BioProcess Institute, notes that sustainability means different things across the industry, from reducing carbon footprints to managing water usage. With no definitive answer on whether single-use or multi-use systems are better, Vogel advises companies at all stages to take sustainability seriously—it’s crucial for both the bottom line and the planet. This is such an important topic! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eMErqkP8 #Sustainability #Biomanufacturing #BioProcess #GreenInnovation #SustainablePractices #CleanTech

Sustainability reporting has been actively implemented within the organizations this year, which has established a good baseline for the organizations. Now the active steps are required and need to be integrated within the company to ensure the actions in lines with the goals committed for the future sustainability goals. Surya Vikram Singh has been doing great work in creation of food waste management capacity of more than 300Tons/day across multiple locations through corporate/enterprise deployment. In addition, there has been active work on preparing the material for recycling. We are proud of this partnership and looking forward to build the tangible outcomes for climate change, sustainability. We are building frameworks, sustainability implementation goes beyond reporting & real measurable outcomes, so we welcome all the stakeholders for their inputs Please DM or write in the comments. The 1st Circular Economist ♻️ Mother Nature moves... 😍 Nature's ingenuity never ceases to amaze me. Take the White Meranti tree: seeds 'pirouette' through the air like tiny helicopters. ➡️ As a circular economist, I'm inspired by this elegant solution for seed dispersal. ➡️ the most efficient designs often mimic nature's time-tested strategies. ➡️ From biodegradable packaging to renewable energy systems, our greatest innovations are often hiding in plain sight. What goes around, comes around! Getting dizzy 😄 ? ✍🏽 Message to explore 'circular potential' for your organisation and life. ♻️ Please share for more circular action. #circulareconomy #innovation #zerowaste

♻️ Circular Economy Brings Energy and Economic Efficiency Together 🌱 Don’t miss this enlightening conversation with our CCO, Jason E. Dodier! 🔗 Click here to read the full interview: https://lnkd.in/dDVvBV3M Key highlights: 💡 The transformative potential of #biochar, made from repurposed by-products, to enhance industries such as concrete, water filtration, and agriculture. 🔍 Challenges such as resistance to change, lack of standardization, and misconceptions about cost-effectiveness. 🌱 How a circular economy is a powerful tool to address systemic inequalities, especially in areas suffering from environmental degradation. A big thank you to Carlos Roa Viana for capturing this engaging discussion and to the VoLo Foundation for facilitating such a valuable Q&A session! 🗨️ As Jason says, “Waste is only waste if we discard it (...). Circular economy is inspired by natural cycles. That’s really what the future is about”. --- La entrevista está disponible también en español 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d_6i77ea #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #ClimateAction #GreenInnovation

This week’s Sustainability Moment is bought to you from Innovation Zero! We’ve heard some amazing speakers and met with inspirational innovators, investors and corporates working to build a #sustainable future. Our top 3 takeaways are: 1️⃣ Decarbonising the industries that keep us all fed, clothed and clean is more complex than swapping out oil for renewable energy. There are a few more steps needed to make the fertilisers, textiles and detergents we all rely on. 🫠 2️⃣ Collaboration, collaboration, collaboration! Whether it’s public-private partnerships or established firms supporting the uptake of innovation - a great idea needs to be nurtured to make an impact. 🤝 3️⃣ There are some amazing ideas out there: from making methane from waste water to long term energy storage to shipping green ammonia - we have so many pieces of the #decarbonisation puzzle - it’s time to start fitting them all together. 🧩 If you were there, let us know in the comments what your biggest takeaways where!
