💡 #SterileProcessing & #Endoscopy: Constant Evolution 💡 From navigating pandemic solutions to tackling ANSI/AAMI ST91 and ST108 updates, sterile processing and endoscopy departments have faced non-stop changes. 🚀 With increased surgical volumes and shifting workflows, disruptions are inevitable. But what trends are taking over reprocessing? Here are 4 key changes impacting departments today: 🧪 #1: Quality Assurance Testing ATP and protein testing are now critical to meet new standards. But how do you integrate these processes without creating bottlenecks? Dedicated space, power, and tracking systems are essential to ensure smooth integration for borescopes and QA kits. ⚡📋 💧 #2: Increased Soaking Times Longer soak times, especially with robotic instruments and delayed endoscope reprocessing, can slow throughput. Create designated soaking areas with timers and temperature gauges to keep workflows efficient and organized. 🚿⏱️ 🛠️ #3: Instrument Trays Overweight trays and wrapping challenges are increasing. Mobile scales and lighted wrap tables can help streamline workflows and reduce compliance risks. 🧳📏 💻 #4: Digital Record-Keeping As record-keeping goes digital, ensure stations are equipped with power outlets and organized to avoid clutter and water damage. Protecting IT equipment is key to maintaining efficiency. ⚡🖥️

❗What’s the biggest challenge your team faces with reprocessing complex instruments? As surgical technology advances, so does the complexity of reprocessing—especially in #SterileProcessing and #GI departments. The intricacies of these designs, combined with rigorous IFU standards, present a formidable challenge to ensuring patient safety. We dive into five types of surgical instruments that require extra consideration: 1️⃣ Robotic Instruments: Known for their “nooks and crannies,” robotic instruments are challenging to completely decontaminate. From sink basin size to flushing channels under pressure, proper reprocessing requires careful planning and potentially updated equipment. 2️⃣ Flexible Endoscopes: Long, narrow channels and complex ports make these instruments prone to biofilm if not handled correctly. AAMI ST91:2021 emphasizes the need for specialized training to keep reprocessing practices safe and consistent. 3️⃣ Ocular & Ophthalmic Instruments: When improperly reprocessed, these instruments pose risks like Toxic Anterior Segment Syndrome (TASS). Many IFUs call for enzyme-free detergents and single-use brushes to avoid contamination risks that could impact vision. 4️⃣ Loaner Instruments & Flexible Reamers: Handling loaner equipment requires thorough training, stringent IFU reporting from vendors, and dedicated #decontamination protocols. A robust program ensures all instruments meet the facility’s safety standards. 5️⃣ Other High-Risk Instruments: Specialty tools often have complex cleaning needs that may include specific water quality or single-use items to ensure thorough sterilization.

Operating Rooms (OR) require a reliable and efficient supply of sterile goods to ensure patient safety and surgery success. Single-use polypropylene wraps were the global sterilisation standard for many years, generating massive amounts of waste due to their single-use nature. Today, we recognise that healthcare extends beyond caring for people; it also involves caring for our environment. The innovative reusable sterile container system drastically reduces environmental impact without compromising the safety and precision required for sterile OR instruments, setting a new quality standard. This revolution in modern medical care reflects a new wave we are proud to be a part of—one that is more mindful of how we can positively impact the world. To commemorate this milestone, B. Braun Medical Supplies (BMS) pledges to plant a tree for every sterile container system adopted by hospitals. I'm thrilled to share B. Braun's remarkable initiative. Transitioning from single-use polypropylene wraps to reusable sterile container systems marks a leap forward in both patient safety and environmental stewardship. 🌍 In Malaysia, where the Ministry of Health is looking towards sustainable practices, this shift aligns perfectly with our national goals. As someone involved in government affairs and policy, I see first hand the importance of such initiatives (imagine 95% of waste is eliminated). This approach reduces medical waste and sets a new standard for OR quality and safety. For our doctors and healthcare workers, this change means a safer, more efficient working environment. Knowing that B. Braun Medical Supplies' pledge to plant a tree for every system adopted adds a personal touch and a tangible environmental impact. I hope together, we can plant a whole forest! #StrongerTogether #KamiBBRAUN #ESG #Sustainability #GovernmentAffairs #Malaysia

Nationally, 80% of reusable surgical instruments remain untouched or unnecessary during procedures, burdening SPD (Sterile Processing Department) with processing, repairing, and replacing them unnecessarily. This scenario parallels dry cleaning 80% of shirts in your closet weekly that you’ll never wear. Our solution is designed to save significant time and money, boost surgeon satisfaction, and enhance SPD throughput. Let’s discuss further without the need for cost analysis. #SPD #surgicalinstruments #specialtycare #opflow
