If you haven't listened to this week's episode of Real Space Strategy, here's a quote to encourage you to do so.... “… people need to keep in perspective how dependent we have become on space … those 10,200 satellites on-orbit of every nation’s registry are up there doing 24/7 365 day operations and it becomes awfully easy for our sister services to look at the Space Force as a service provider … there is not going to be any support to the warfighter if we get into a war because our satellites are absolutely undefended … the enemy has more weapons than we have satellites that they need to defend. Space Force only operates an average of 70 satellites. The Chinese have 400 satellites. We are a second-rate Space Force; we took our eyes off the ball … right now the Space Force is getting about 3.5% of the entire DoD budget and we have to catch up. We are so far behind the curve plus we have over- bureaucratized our management of space … we have to provide space superiority in challenged and contested space, or we won’t be able to provide services to anyone anywhere … we don’t have the types of weapons to hold at risk enemies who would challenge us in space. Therefore, we have no deterrent capability, no deterrent credibility. We are sitting ducks.” Dr. M.V. The increasing dependence on #space systems marks a pivotal juncture for global infrastructure, where space acts not only as a strategic asset, but also as a critical enabler for diverse capabilities. Curious how to build an ecosystem for responsive space? In our latest study we have identified four critical bottlenecks in deploying responsive space systems:

For your consideration, from yesterday’s testimony of General Stephen Whiting, Commander U.S. Space Command, before the Senate Armed Services Committee: “On-orbit refueling, in-space assembly, modular hardware change-out, and urgent orbital resupply would enable dynamic space operations and change how this Command achieves and maintains space superiority. Legacy space systems, constrained by the technological limitations of their time, were launched to space with only the fuel and payloads they would have for their lifetimes; thus, they have minimal operational maneuverability, flexibility, or inherent defensive capability. Modern systems, beginning today, must provide greater flexibility through maneuver, upgradability, or re-supply. Dynamic space platforms purpose-built to support space maneuver will provide far greater capability and capacity to deter, surprise, maintain initiative, and conduct other operations required today and in the near future. The PRC is moving forward in this area. The urgency with which we must approach, and appropriately fund, this critical endeavor cannot be overstated.” #maneuver_without_regret

The internationally acclaimed expert on space strategies and space warfare, Paul Szymanski, is presenting an on-line lecture on how to fight and win space wars. You are cordially invited to participate in this seminar, and ask questions of Mr. Szymanski afterwards on his vast knowledge of this critical subject. At this unclassified lecture he will present the foundational issues of space warfare including doctrine, strategies and tactics, and provide a history of previous space wars since the 1960’s. He will also provide technical orbital descriptions of space attacks that occurred during the Ukrainian conflict. Finally, he will talk about his assessment of who is the primary space powers around the World and their political implications. For his second lecture, he will describe 100 different means of attacking satellites without creating space debris. As a part of registration for this lecture, attendees will be included in Mr. Szymanski’s weekly on-line discussion forums and periodically receive his space war concept papers. The U.S. Space Force’s $29.4 billion fiscal year 2025 budget request is $600 million lower than FY24, following three years of growth. The NEW United States Space Force Futures Command holds the keys to many exciting possibilities. The primary objective is to increase readiness for great power competition with China and Russia. Futures Command "will be made up of three components: A Concepts and Technologies Center, a Wargaming Center and the Space Warfighting and Analysis Center (SWAC)." I hope they also plan to include considerations for the impacts of #economics and #finance power on future great power competition. The #USA 🇺🇸 and our allies win when we use all of our tools and advantages to deter and defend both Earth and the future #spaceeconomy 🌚🛰👍. If they need any help, I know a Chief Space Economist who is itching to get back into uniform. -GSP- MilkyWayEconomy The Space Economy
