Delegates can get direct trains from London in just 4.5 hours, but for that extra wow factor, the Caledonian Sleeper is a really unique experience. You can also go to Glasgow, Fort William and Inverness, if you want to try a different city or add on a hiking adventure afterwards. 🇫🇷 In the word of Audrey Hepburn, ‘Paris is always a good idea’. Less than 2.5 hours on the Eurostar from Kings Cross St Pancras, it’s packed full of incredible restaurants, unique event spaces and wide ranging incentive options. Whether you want to gorge yourself on French cheese, create your own perfume or take in the culture and history, there’s something for everyone. 🏴 Got people coming from all over the UK and need to stay in England? No problem. Why not use Birmingham as a base and shorten the journey for everyone? While the city itself is well-equipped for large events, the surrounding region also has a lot to offer. From the Black Country Museum to Warwick Castle and the Shakespeare tours in Stratford-Upon-Avon, there’s plenty of options to choose from. 🇳🇱 Two other fantastic Eurostar destinations are Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Accessible in just a few hours from London, there’s plenty to keep guests entertained in these cities. As well as beautiful canalside event spaces, boat tours and traditional museums, there’s also quirky and modern venues to choose from. The train network inside the Netherlands is highly efficient, so you can always tag on a trip to the coast, or even hop over to Belgium or Germany. How to exhibit sustainably (Top Tip Tuesday: IMEX Edition) Research lower emission travel options. We decided to take the train from London to Frankfurt, which took 5.5 hours. We took the Eurostar from St Pancras station without loads of queuing or luggage restrictions at the airport. When we arrived in Brussels, we had a slight delay, but we made the most of it and had a few drinks in the sun while we waited. Then, we were on the last stretch, and it was nice to travel through the countryside on the way to Frankfurt. Take your exhibition stand with you. Yes, it’s a few extra bags to carry, but it wasn’t that difficult without any luggage restrictions. The trains in Europe are spacious, making it easy to load the bags onto the train. Remember to pack it up and take it back with you so you can reuse it at the next event you go to. Throughout the event, to get around the city, why not opt for e-scooters, bikes, or trains rather than taxis, if that’s an option for you? We decided to use e-scooters from our hotel to the venue on the first two days when we didn’t have our bags. Research local suppliers if you’re hosting on-stand events. They can help you deliver a more sustainable option. We hosted a ‘Zero Waste, Maximum Taste Happy Hour,’ where we teamed up with a local beer company offering zero-waste alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer. Using TRACE by isla to plug in the data, we compared the emissions of flying vs going by train for 3 members of staff. You can see the difference in the comments. And that’s how we exhibited sustainably at IMEX Frankfurt. We’d love to hear how you’ve exhibited at events. #sustainabletravel #eventsustainability #eventprofs #IMEX #IMEXFrankfurt Roger Lehner Anna Abdelnoor Tom Brown Femke Millership
