It’s very appropriate that World MS Day falls within Mental Health Awareness Month. The two are so closely connected. Patients with MS are often dismissed, misdiagnosed, and constantly frustrated by having to explain the very nuanced nature of this disease. Autoimmune diseases in general are often dismissed as “fatigue” or “excuses” for perceived laziness. As professionals with MS we fight against stigma every day, because a lot of us don’t “look” sick. No wonder so many of us have anxiety and depression. #invisibledisabilities #workingwithms #deib #msawareness #mentalhealth #autoimmunedisease
It's World MS Day! With your help, we’re shining a light on what it’s like to live with MS. From diagnosis to lived experience, each story is as varied and unique as the people living it, and people from all over shared their stories with us. Your diagnosis story not only helps illuminate life with MS, but reminds us that we’re in this together.

Multiple Sclerosis has many faces, many languages, and many identities. From diagnosis to treatment, living with MS is indeed a unique experience. With many ups and downs, and many adaptations to make. In the prime of their lives, it is especially young people who go through a lot when receiving a diagnosis. This is why we want to ensure that no matter how difficult it gets, their path is clear to have access to healthcare and medication, education and an inclusive job market that lets us thrive and work with a chronic condition. We must clear the path for those living with this chronic condition and call for more representation and inclusion of young people, minorities and diverse identities in the MS community. 🧡 World MS Day might have been yesterday, but advocacy continues daily. #WorldMSDay #MultipleSclerosis #MSDiagnosis #MS

Truly brilliant presentation by Dr Pat Crittenden from the BPS conference in 2012, presenting her Dynamic Maturation Model, an extension of attachment theory. The model clearly maps out how the strategies and adaptations we learn early in life are understandable in a particular context, but can become less helpful in new contexts. The role of the therapist is to notice and understand the adaptation, and help the client to develop new adaptations to life. She hypothesises that perhaps clients with particular types of adaptation may be more or less suited to different types of therapy. Fascinating stuff. https://lnkd.in/eCWzFju3
