👁️🗨️ One interesting researcher at SLU to keep an eye on is Hussein Khalil. His research focuses on improving human and ecosystem health by studying the pathways that link eco-environmental, infrastructural, socioeconomic, and behavioral factors, especially in low-income urban settings. On the 3rd of December, 08:00, you can join SLU Future One Health's breakfast club and hear more about Hussein's work. ☕ Participatory Research and One Health: Uplifting urban slums in Brazil The talk will address an ongoing multi-partner project in the city of Salvador, Brazil, where researchers work with local stakeholders and (especially young) residents to improve health outcomes in low-income urban areas. Through the lens of One Health, the project implements and evaluates a range of activities and interventions to improve environmental quality as well as animal and human health. 👉 Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dH5C235m #SLUFutureOneHealth #urbanhealth #onehealth #urbanslums #participatoryresearch #urbanfutures SLU - Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

I am pleased to share the publication of the article “Occurrences, Human Harm, and Years of Life Lost Due to Natural Disasters in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2010-2022: A Cohort Study”, of which I am a co-author, in the Journal of Public Health and Sustainability (RESS) of SUS. The study explores the impacts of natural disasters on public health in the state, highlighting human harm and the loss of years of life due to extreme climate events. This work would not have been possible without the collaboration of a dedicated team, especially through the partnership with my colleague and lead author, Prof. Dr. Roberta Paz. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important research on the topic. #ClimateChange #PublicHealth #Research #Sustainability #NaturalDisasters

🌍 We're excited to share our newly published study: 'The Evolution of Forest Restoration in Europe: A Synthesis for a Step Forward Based on National Expert Knowledge'! Today, the global push for #forest #restoration is stronger than at any point in history. Initiatives like the European #NatureRestorationLaw are sparking hope and action. Now, more than ever, we need to look back and reflect on how forest restoration efforts have evolved, what sparked change, and what lessons past and present initiatives can offer. That will empower us to make forest restoration efforts more effective, impactful, and grounded — both now and in the future. Led by Maitane Erdozain Ibarra and Sergio de Miguel Magaña from the Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) and the University of Lleida, our study examined narratives from 32 forest restoration experts in 18 European countries to uncover the history of forest restoration in Europe. Our study asked experts to delve into six key areas—#social, #economic, #political, #technical, #environmental and #legal— to understand different drivers that shaped forest restoration across Europe. Read below to discover the '10 forces shaping the evolution of forest restoration in Europe' synthesized through the study 👇 📰 Link to the news item: https://lnkd.in/eu86RxSh 📚 Link to the full study: https://lnkd.in/eKdiJ3bG 👏 Last but not least, a big applause to all the authors tagged in the comment below for this great work!

📣 New Publication Alert! 📣 Excited to share that our paper, “To cool or not to cool: Understanding and improving cooling centre use in Metro Vancouver through community-based participatory action research,” has been published in Environmental Research: Health. In this study, we used a community-based participatory approach to explore barriers and opportunities related to cooling centre access and broader responses to extreme heat in Metro Vancouver. Our findings reveal the complex interplay between personal preferences, systemic barriers, and the urgent need for equitable, community-centered solutions to mitigate the health risks of extreme heat—especially for marginalized populations. Forest bathing is an increasingly popular activity in many Protected Areas. Courses for Protected Area staff to accompany people in such experiences are gaining popularity all over Europe. Science confirms that nature is a great tool to boost well-being and prevent ill-health. But what research is behind it? What protocols are underpinning the nature immersion sessions? And how does forest bathing differ from similar practices such as forest therapy or the wild ways well approach embedded in EUROPARC's Healthy Parks Healthy People Europe Programme? In this webinar, we are sharing the stories and contributions of two public bodies - the government of Catalonia and the Italian National Research Council, Institute of Bioeconomy
