Google's srsltid= Parameter is impacting organic traffic 🚨 In August 2024, SEOs observed Google's srsltid= parameter appearing in organic search listings, a shift from its previous use tied to Shopping auto-tagging. This change has significant implications for traffic attribution and data clarity. What’s the concern? 💡 Traffic misattribution: By treating organic clicks with a Shopping parameter, traffic data may be misrepresented, blending distinct channels and undermining accurate attribution. 💡 URL sharing issues: Unique srsltid= parameters are appended to every click-through, potentially creating a proliferation of URLs when shared, skewing referral data and complicating tracking. 💡 SEO implications: This increase in URL variations may impact crawling efficiency and contradicts established best practices for URL handling. Google's own URL structure guidelines (👉 https://ow.ly/rlTq50U4k9y) advise against using unnecessary URL parameters, as they can lead to "unnecessarily high numbers of URLs that point to identical or similar content on your site." Key takeaway! The integration of srsltid= in organic listings raises serious questions for data integrity and attribution accuracy. 🧐We conducted 800 local intent searches to measure the visibility of different result types in the first ten organic results🧐 KEY FINDINGS 👇🏼 🚀 Business directories make up almost a third of local-intent organic search results overall (31%). 🚀 Business directories make up 37% of organic search results for informational local-intent search terms. 🚀 Yelp results appear for 28% of all directory results, followed by Tripadvisor at 10%, and Expertise at 8%. 🚀 72% of ‘fast food restaurants’ search results showed business directories, the highest proportion of all our industry searches. 🚀 Forum results represent only 7% of the local-intent search results analyzed, but 89% of those forum results come from Reddit. 🚀 Industry-specific directories, such as Booksy, DoorDash, Gymbird, and GreatVet, were prominent across respective industry searches.
