Cultivating Connections: Thea-Isabella Otto’s Journeys Through the Next Gen Ag Landscape Part 2 After attending the #Indooragcon in Las Vegas, I traveled to San Francisco for the World Agri-Tech Summit. Although the focus at the previous event had been on controlled environment agriculture (CEA), this topic didn't receive as much attention at the summit in San Francisco. However, this turned out to be a positive thing. The summit wasn't solely focused on vertical farms, which have been struggling lately. It was a diverse gathering of innovators from across the entire agri-food spectrum. The event took place on March 19th and 20th, and attracted a high-level delegation of 2,400 people from 58 countries to discuss the future of sustainable agriculture. As someone in the indoor farming industry, this was a unique opportunity. While the Indoor AG-CON in Las Vegas primarily attracted industry professionals, the World Agri-Tech Summit in San Francisco provided a direct link to potential investors and retailers. It was like having a front-row seat to the future of food production, where cutting-edge technology meets real-world demand. ✍ Happy to share that I will be attending the World Seed Congress 2024 🌱 as part of the NGIN International Seed Federation (ISF) delegation. This congress will serve as an opportunity to network with global agri-experts, engage in conversations on sustainable agriculture, and curate ideas for improving the agri-food sector. 👉 More importantly, the International Seed Federation (ISF) will be celebrating its 100th anniversary. As we celebrate the remarkable achievements of ISF, we must also be aware of the challenges that lie ahead. Times are different! The patterns of vegetation seasonalities are changing. There is increased loss of biodiversity, and the frequency and severity of drought events are alarming. What does this mean for the small holder farmers who contribute significantly to food production? How can we build a resilient and future-proof agri-food sector? How can we leverage the global seed sector to deliver sustainable food systems? 👬 We are in crucial times, and the discussions that will be held at the World Seed Congress will be key, not just towards shaping the next 100 years of ISF but also the future of agriculture. I am looking forward to being part of the highly-engaging and rewarding conversations at the World Seed Congress 2024. See you in Rotterdam! 🤝 #WorldSeedCongress #SustainableAgriculture #AgriFoodSector #NGIN #ISF #SeedIndustry #100YearsOfISF #ClimateChange #BiodiversityLoss #DroughtResilience #SmallholderFarmers #GlobalAgriExperts #FutureOfAgriculture #FoodSecurity #AgriInnovation #Rotherdam #Networking #GlobalFoodSystems #SeedSector #ClimateAction

A new La Trobe research institute aims to safeguard global food security by innovating 'from the paddock to the gut'. Launched today at AgriBio, the La Trobe Institute for Sustainable Agriculture and Food (LISAF) will undertake research across the agri-food chain. With growing population, decreasing arable land and the effects of climate change, a key focus of the institute will be finding innovative ways to grow increased volumes of food and medicinal crops with greater resilience. 'Our new La Trobe Institute has a bold ambition to combine experts and programs in agrifood across production, business, supply chains and consumer preferences—with application of the latest technology, AI and Big Data—to create a unique one-stop shop across the span of agrifood,' said LISAF Director Professor Tony Bacic. Among the institute's plans are: 🌾The establishment of a $28 million ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub for Protected Cropping (with funding from the Federal Government, La Trobe and industry sponsors) 🌾 Joining the Australian Plant Phenomics Network, with a $7m grant from the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Learn more: https://lnkd.in/giHM9DdK #foodsecurity #protectedcropping #agribusiness #latrobeuni
