The global greenhouse horticulture market is expected to grow in the coming years: with a growing need to extend cropping seasons to sustainably feed the world's population and the increasing need to shield crops from adverse climatic conditions and pests, the demand for innovative greenhouse solutions is on the rise. In this context, knowledge sharing and industry connections are fundamental, as present advancements can shape the future of sustainable agriculture and contributing to global food security. During the conference, we delved into crucial topics such as market dynamics and new regulations, innovative raw materials solutions, film extrusion technologies, sustainability and recycling efforts, and pest control methods. A new La Trobe research institute aims to safeguard global food security by innovating 'from the paddock to the gut'. Launched today at AgriBio, the La Trobe Institute for Sustainable Agriculture and Food (LISAF) will undertake research across the agri-food chain. With growing population, decreasing arable land and the effects of climate change, a key focus of the institute will be finding innovative ways to grow increased volumes of food and medicinal crops with greater resilience. 'Our new La Trobe Institute has a bold ambition to combine experts and programs in agrifood across production, business, supply chains and consumer preferences—with application of the latest technology, AI and Big Data—to create a unique one-stop shop across the span of agrifood,' said LISAF Director Professor Tony Bacic.
