I recently upgraded my ageing mid-2015 Macbook Pro with a shiny new one and with the old device in near pristine order I decided to trade it in and get some ££££'s back. The quote from Apple's recycling partner was £130 which was no too bad for a laptop almost a decade old and the resulting gift card would go towards replacing a few other ageing peripherals. I requested the returns packaging and set everything back a little over a month ago - and then ...... crickets! Despite being sent via next day delivery it took about a week before the Trade In portal reported that it had been received (no notification, I had to check). After two weeks the status hadn't changed so I requested an update which was prompted received indicating that the laptop was as I said it was and that the full quote value would be honoured by gift card in the next 5 working days...... After another week (more than 5 working days) I pinged them again and was told that there was an issue with my email address for the gift card. This isn't uncommon as I use an email masking service to protect my primary inbox and foolishly thought that a .email domain would be cool ... but it's not! So many websites etc won't accept an email with more than 3 (sometimes 4) characters after the last dot of an email address ..... kind of ironic for a .email domain don't you think. I provided them with another address, this time with the requisite number of characters at the end and was told that my gift card would arrive into my inbox within the next 5 working days. Well, you can probably guess why I'm writing .... no gift card! I've chased again and was told that the payment had gone through this time and to check my Spam/Junk (which I'd already done). Yes, it's a first world problem but why are the simple things so hard these days?

Have you ever bought a TV thinking about how you would break it? I certainly have not. Accidents happen and we can't stop them, but as a designer, I can't help but think about how the user experience goes in a case like this and how in a turn of events this can affect the user's perception of a brand or a product. This was how it happened to me: - Immediately after seeing it tilted and broken, oh no. 😰 "How could I let that happen?!" "This surely will cost me a lot of money, I'll have to get a new one" "How could it break like that, it only tilted a bit?!" - A dash of hope that maybe I can get it repaired, which will be a lot cheaper, and probably the right thing to do as I was happy with this TV. 🙂 "I just have to find a place and they surely are able to fix the screen, it doesn't look that bad" "It will probably only cost me a fraction of what a new one would". - After asking multiple repair shops including the brand service center. 😨 "I can't believe they simply won't fix it" "This TV is not even 10 years old, it's not that outdated, it's 4K". There I was, hanging with a bad feeling of not knowing what to do next. I hate the fact that there's no repair for a TV that at least in my perspective was not old at all. Here's what the brand could do since there's no repair but to at least close this experience on a positive note: - We are sorry for not being able to repair it but you can dispose of it at one of our disposal locations available on this link. 🙂 "At least they seem to care about the residue that this TV would cause and are willing to recycle it". Or even better - If you dispose of it in one of our locations you can get a gift card that can be used to buy a new TV with us. 😄 "I like this! I won't hurt to look at what they have to offer".
