🪫⚡🔋 💡 Welcome to my first Charge&Learn post/video! Whenever I’m charging, I’ll take a few minutes to talk or post about EVs, mobility, climate, and more. Let’s make charging time learning time! Today’s topic: Energy prices are down, so why is charging still so expensive? The answer is simple: energy prices are just one piece of the puzzle. Here's what actually goes into the cost you see at a charging station: 1️⃣ Energy price (yep, the obvious one) 2️⃣ Fixed costs for the operator, like installation, grid connection, rent, and maintenance. 3️⃣ Third-party markups if you charge through an energy reseller (EMP). A whole story for another 5 posts of mine... Here’s the catch: fixed costs stay the same no matter how many people charge. If only a few EVs use a station, those costs remain high, and prices won’t budge. The key? More utilization. The more sessions, the more those fixed costs can be spread out, helping to adjust prices along with the energy price. Of course, this doesn’t address the extra markup from resellers, but higher utilization is a big part of the solution. In my next Charge&Learn, I’ll dive deeper into why utilization is so important and how it can help us all.
