Are you #hiring for a senior #communications or marketing position, but are currently drowning in work until the right candidate is hired? Consider hiring a fractional marketing and communications consultant! Fractional marketing involves hiring a part-time or contract-based professional to handle specific tasks or projects, rather than having a full-time in-house marketing team. For nonprofits, hiring a fractional marketer can be highly beneficial. Not only is it cost-effective, but you'll get someone who brings a high level of expertise and experience to the table. While hiring for your perfect candidate, you don't have time to train someone. But a fractional marketer can hit the ground running and execute on any key projects you need to keep moving in the interim. When you hire a fractional marketer, they can usually start ASAP, possibly allowing for some overlap with someone who might be leaving the role. They can also help to onboard your new candidate once hired. If you're in the market for a short-term, part-time marketing & communications expert to help fill a gap, reach out! I completely agree with this. It's tough for newcomers when job listings ask for experience labeled as “entry-level”. This mismatch makes it hard for fresh grads to land jobs. Being passed over for a job in favor of a more experienced candidate is a challenge I have personally faced. Companies should offer genuine entry-level roles and focus on nurturing talent instead of just looking for experienced hires.

Marketing job adverts be like: “We're looking for a digital marketing assistant who can manage all of our SEO, PPC, Email Marketing, Social Media, Blog Writing, Website Management, and Brand Strategy. Must have 7 years of marketing experience. Full-time office work (no wfh), 8am till 6pm weekdays (plus some weekends and bank holidays) Competitive salary (that isn’t competitive at all and we won’t disclose it until after your interview) Perfect opportunity for someone eager to join a growing team!” WHY is this our job market in 2024? 😩 Entry-level positions shouldn’t require marketers to have a level of expertise they don’t have for disciplines they have never worked in. Marketing is one of THE most accessible industries, especially with communities like Girls in Marketing but so many companies fail to see how capable entry-level marketers are. How can you expect good-quality people to apply for roles if these are the job descriptions you’re releasing? Companies need to do better. #marketing #hiring #jobadverts

Why do so many ‘social media manager’ roles feel like a jack-of-all-trades job description? The problem isn’t just hiring managers expecting a social media manager to wear all the hats—graphic designer, web developer, SEO specialist, email marketer, and more. It’s also about social media managers themselves applying for roles that don’t align with their expertise. If you truly know your worth as a social media manager, you won’t apply to every job post labeled “social media manager.” Instead, you’ll seek opportunities with organizations that understand the true scope of your role. On the flip side, hiring managers need to clearly define the responsibilities of a social media manager before opening up the role. When expectations are clear, you’re more likely to find the right fit and get real value for your investment. ✅ Hiring managers: Are you ready to define what you need in a social media manager? ✅ Social media managers: Are you aligning your applications with roles that truly fit your skill set? Let’s bridge this gap—what are your thoughts? Drop them in the comments below!
