I've been really quiet on here, for a number of reasons which I probably shouldn't go into, but I will. I've always been committed to using LinkedIn to help tell the story of what it's actually like owning a business and that includes the good and the bad. Sadly at the moment it is more bad than good, but there is a bit of good, starting with the news below that we've taken on We Take Flight - Shopify Agency to help us with our website. I built our shopify store 4.5 years ago to help get us through COVID and it has remained largely untouched since, which isn't good enough really! So soon we will have a a shiny new website that should add a revenue stream that is pretty much untouched for us at the moment. Now the bad. Times are tough man. Like, really tough. We now know that September through till the end of November is tough, but this year it started in August. It definitely hasn't been helped by sickness in our household - having to take nearly a month and a half off buidling the business during this time has hurt the business badly and has come at the wrong time. The taproom's events are doing great but there is a definite slow down with people just going out for a drink and it's starting to hurt. Furthermore, a gauge I always use is how quick our trade customers are to pay and it's not looking good at the moment. Places are struggling, which means we struggle to get paid. I know there's plenty of solutions around this and we are using a lot of them, but it's still an issue. Oh, and we had another regular customer close their doors for the last time. So that's 6 gone this year. This all adds up to a general feeling of being swamped and not having time to post on the socials. Which is obviously not the right thing to do, it should trigger me to post more to drive business, but the brain does what it wants some times. So yeah, this isn't your usual LinkedIn post about how amazing I can make your life with these few handy tricks etc., but it's real - it's hard out there folks and us small businesses need your help. So if you can support your local right now, please do. And please buy local beer, big beer doesn't need any more of your money, but we do, it's as blunt as that. Oh, and if you want to go see how bad our website is now, go to www.horsforthbrewery.co.uk . Believe it or not I've even made some improvements over the weekend. And our taproom's open Tuesday - Sunday. We've got some new seating in there, there'll be a post about that soon too because content is content 😂
