Joining 7 News Melbourne, CyberCX's Shameela Gonzalez warned that not only are scams on the rise, but scammers are consistently trying to innovate and find new tactics and methods to deceive Australians. "It's important to remember that a scammer's ultimate motivation is to manipulate people, and for financial theft," said Shameela. "So it's not surprising that they're often using text message and email as their mode of communication, and arming it with some kind of alert that gives people a sense of urgency." Shameela said that anyone can fall victim to a scam at any given point in time, so it's critical that people are educated to be aware of new and evolving types of scams, and it's important that they report them. "The more information the government, banks and telecommunications providers have on scams, the better chance they have at circumventing them."
